Car Warranty

What kills me about car repair costs is that they are never cheap. I went for an oil change yesterday and ended up spending $70. Bill went for one and ended up spending $170. Both of these were for just maintenance stuff!!! When your car truly breaks down, that is when you really need a car warranty.
I have been stuck on the side of the road on a holiday weekend without one, and let me tell you, it sucked. I was two hours from my house and two hours from where I was going. I should have gotten a warranty from Continental Warranty. Instead I had to start walking towards the nearest exit on the highway. Granted, I was 19 at the time and in much better shape. However, it still was still a bad situation. It was about noon Memorial weekend when this happened, so getting anyone to help me was going to be like pulling teeth. A cop picked me up and drove me to the Burger King at the top of the exit, so I could call for help. Now, since it was in the middle of the day, nobody was home in Green Bay. Since I was going to visit Bill here in Chicago, I called him. Bill and his friend Tony came to get me. Remember I said that I was 2 hours away. I sat at Burger King that whole time. Tony ended up being able to fix me on the side of the road. I had a broken distributor cap and something else too (I can’t remember anymore what the other thing was). Now, if I would have had a warranty, I could have gotten a tow to the local mechanic and would have been done and been on my way before Bill and Tony got there. I seriously lucked out at the fact it could even be fixed roadside.

SO i tow truck comes for free? or you couldn’t get one at all? whoa! that sucks! atleast it all worked out and it didn’t cost you anything. I really really really need to take my car in for a tune-up check-up, to see if any parts have to be replaced. The only things i’ve replaced are a couple of tires, brakes, the washer on my power steering contraption, and my air filter and the occasional oil change and engine flush. But who knows, something could be seriously wrong with my car and i don’t know about it.
wanted to let you know that because you were so nice to help me out on one of my payperpost board questions, i included you in my Meme post with a tag for your site, to help you out. Please check it out here for the rules on how to pass on the love:) Meme tags
Thanks in advance and I hope you don’t mind me giving you a link.
That’s kinda why I don’t drive, lol
I agree, a car warranty is like health insurance for your vehicle – you can use it during the insured period to help with the cost, or at least part of the cost, of repairs to your vehicle.
But just as a person’s health insurance policy is issued based on his or her current state of health, so too is your car warranty issued based upon its age and current state of fitness - mileage, etc. - if your vehicle is too old or has a high mileage , then it becomes increasingly difficult to cover.
Additionally, a health insurance will not cover you for every single sickness, disease or virus that you may come upon. It does not cover certain fatal illnesses or sudden death coverage. Your car warranty works very much on the same principle. Some warranties, for example, cover the cost of repairs for all the parts of the car while others cover only specified parts. Which coverage you have or do not have depends a lot on the age and health of your car.
I have always used Warrantywise for my used car warranties - they have been great whenever I’ve had to make a claim - they only cover vehicles in the UK but I know there are many similar companies in the states.
