Ken Leonard
Ken Leonard (On The Right)
From High Point, North Carolina
Every once in a while you run across one of those “feel good stories”. Those stories that show us just what a person can do when they really want it bad enough. And Ken Leonard has one of those stories.

In 2005, Ken Leonard left his job as a police officer in High Point, North Carolina to go to Iraq to work with a private security firm. In December of that year, Ken, along with five other men in his vehicle and six others in the vehicle behind him, was hit by a roadside bomb outside of Baghdad. “After the bomb went off, I knew exactly what had happened,” Leonard recalled. “My feet got jarred, so I knew they were hit.” While others in his vehicle were injured, he had received the worst of it. He had lost both his feet.

The vehicle behind them pushed Leonard’s to a safer area. But flames were coming out of the air conditioning vents and they had to get out. Leonard crawled from the car and fell to the pavement. “That’s when I saw my feet,” he said. “I could tell they were gone. They were still attached, but they were shredded.”

On July 19, 2007, Ken Leonard went back to North Carolina to get his job back with the police force. To do that he needed to pass the Police Officers Physical Abilities Test, which, among other things, consisted of a 200-yard run to be finished in under 7 minutes, 20 seconds. And he did just that with 24 seconds to spare.

“Somebody told me one time they said, ‘You know, what you’ve lost is just bone and muscle. You’ve still got heart, and you’ve still got, you know, what’s up here,’” Leonard said, pointing to his head.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.
We Should Not Only Mourn These Men And Women Who Died, We Should Also Thank God That Such People Lived

Australia

Australia is one of those places I would always love to visit someday. When I was in elementary school, I actually had a friend that moved there. She ended up staying in some Sydney Hotels until they found a place to live. Since it has been so long, I am pretty sure she would be impossible to locate now.

From the pictures I have seen, it looks absolutely beautiful there.  I am sure if Bill’s parents timeshare does not work there that we should be able to find Hotels in Sydney without a problem.  I don’t know how expensive of a vacation this would be though.  I do know that the plane flight would be extremely long to get there — I am thinking probably over 24 hours.  If that is the case, I would definitely want some really nice Sydney Accommodations picked out.  I would think the first thing you would want to do is take a shower and change your clothes after such a long flight.

Again, this would be a dream vacation.  Maybe someday when the kids are older we will be able to do this.

Gifts

Have you been working on your christmas gift ideas? I have. So far, I already have both Grandmas bought for from the kids. I have a really good I idea what I am going to do for both our moms too. I can’t tell you what it is due to my inlaws reading my blog. I want it to be a surprise. :)

To be honest, I have no idea what we are getting the kids. I just know we are going to end up spending an arm and leg like we always do.

Mexico

We turned in our information to Bill’s dad last night, so we are just in wait and see mode to find out whether the resort we picked has any opening. We are pretty flexible about when to do, so I am hoping this will be pretty painless. I figure that Bill and I will count this towards our anniversary gifts to each other, since we did not get to do anything this year. We did have a nice dinner and a movie planned, but Will decided to come 3 weeks early instead. I am trying to patient, but I am pretty excited!

Technology

People call me all the time to help fix their computers. Therefore, you would think I am technology whiz. However, if you can believe it, I have never sent a text message in my life. Crazy, I know. Even crazier, I have no idea how. I know how to make calls from my cell phone. That is it. I do not know how to text, I don’t know how to set reminders, and I don’t even know what features my phone has. The only thing I have done is program in some phone numbers and downloaded a Tool song for my ringtone. I do not own a mp3 player either. However, this I would like to learn. We unfortunately don’t have one. We own a ton of CDs and can’t see spending the money on buying music to play on it. (At least that is how I understand they work. I could be wrong.) Anybody else in the stone age with me?
