I am so glad I found this story over at Slog. I too wish I knew guys like this when I was in high school. I know you have to be wondering why they are wearing pink shirts.
Well, a fellow classmate (a freshman) wore a pink shirt to the first day of school and was surrounded by bullies who called him horrible names and threatened to beat him up. The two used the Internet, word of mouth, and brought 75 pink shirts for fellow students to wear. The kid who was bullied even got one to wear also. They also brought a pink basketball, pink headbands, and pink arm bands. The boys, David Shepherd and Travis Price, figure about half of the school (there are about 830 kids) wore pink that day.
High school is brutal. I think David and Travis deserve a medal of some sort for what they did. Too often, bullying just gets ignored. It is nice to see someone take a stand.

A Stand Against Bullying…
David Shepherd and Travis Price take a “pink” stand against bullying…
In Japan, there are actually high school students committing suicide because of they were bullied. I hope all forms of bullying will stop.

They will do great things in life

Very cool, if only more people taught their kids to stand up for what they believe in.

My son is a freshman in high school this year and I would hope that he would be one to support this type of rally and make a stand against bullying. Great post!

Grace, people kill themselves because of bullying all over the world, not just in Japan… Anyway, I think that what they did was really good. Often bullying is ignored- at least some people do something about it.

This is a refreshing story. I’ve reported on my blog so many times how I wish students and their parents were more responsible and/or award of just how much bullying takes place in our lives. Kudos to these kids who pushed back.

This was a great story. I didn’t witness much bullying when I was in school, so it’s hard to comprehend what these kids go through.

Kids can be so cruel to each other. It’s always encouraging to learn about the ones who won’t let the bullies have their way. Mahalo for sharing this!
Here for the Postie Carnival … of course!

Great post. There’s another one over at LionsLedBySheep that shows what a school did to combat bullying. http://www.lionsledbysheep.com/2008/08/21/kids/
My kid just started at the local community college and they had a similar thing there.
