October 15th Wave of Light for Pregnancy and Infant Loss

Posted on October 14, 2007

Having lost a child myself and knowing many others who have also, please take a few minutes of your time and light a candle tomorrow night. Everyone knows someone who has went through this loss (and you may not even know it). According to the Center for Disease Control Trends, 983,000 babies died in 1996 from miscarriage and stillbirth. That figure does not include neonatal loss, SIDS, or other causes.  This is an old statistic, but that number is huge.  It has also went up since then.

A pregnancy or infant loss is not something you tell the whole world about. Often, it is something that you keep private. It is one of the most horrible experiences you can ever go though. I talk about it, because it is good for me, and I hope that it will help someone else. You will always have a hole in your heart, but it does get smaller.

I’ve never heard of this. Having 4 miscarriages myself, I think this is a great idea.

I’ll be lighting a candle and having some memories. Oddly enough the “anniversary” mark was this week for us and though it’s been many years the sadness is still the same.

    ((hugs for everybody))

Thanks for the info on this. This is a difficult subject for me but maybe through blogging about this I can continue on my road of healing.

I can’t even imagine the loss. I’ve known people who have lost their children. One was a case of SIDS, the other was a stillbirth (my dad’s would-have-been twin), my mom’s sister died, I think about a week after she was born, and I know her mom’s mom lost a few babies as well, and just recently a friend of mine told me her sister had a miscarriage. Man, it’s surprising to me how many people I’ve know who have lost their children. And I probably even know more people, but just don’t know, know. It’s so sad.. Not only because of the losses, but because of how often it seems to happen.

My thoughts are with people who have lost a baby.
