Bill came home from work last night and told me that my eye was really, really red. I checked in the mirror and darn it, he was right. Now, up till this point, my eye wasn’t bothering me at all. I popped out my contacts, and within five minutes, my eye started hurting. I am so glad I have a spare set of glasses. I was hoping that it would be gone by this morning. Unfortunately, it is not and hurts even worse! Thank goodness it is only about a block to get to the eye doctor from my house (we can literally walk there). Otherwise, I might have to look into upping my car insurance. The only bad thing is that they can’t get me in till 7 pm CST tonight! I’ll just have to suck it up till then. I am hoping it is not pink eye, but I have no idea what else it could be. At this point, I’d love to just rip my eyeball out. Any takers?

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008Kitchen Do Over
Tuesday, September 30th, 2008For those who have been to my place, you all love the size of my kitchen. I will agree; it is big. However, my kitchen is set up terribly. I wish it would be as easy as refacing my cupboards to solve the problems in there. However, it is not that easy. The first thing I hate is the color of the cabinets. They are a dark wood. We personally are an “oak” family, and it just doesn’t go with our style. My second issue is that my cabinets are tiny. By looking at them, you would never guess. However, the way they are set up, is really crazy. To put plates in the cabinet, you have to turn them sideways. Let me tell you, that is royal pain when you are trying to empy the dishwasher.
I often wondered if we would be better off installing some kitchen islands or even some kitchen island carts. My only worry with a cart is that because it is not anchored to the floor that it would become a new playtoy for my kids. However, it does have the advantage that it can be moved when the kids are playing in the kitchen. My kitchen is big enough that I do not have to worry about space in there. I wouldn’t even mind getting a butcher block kitchen island. I think with little ones the butcher block counter would probably hold up better. Plus, my hubby loves wood and has often showed me butcher block counter tops (our laminate counter top now sucks. That is about as nice as I can put it. It is white and stained and just ugly).
From the research I have done, even doing a simple remodel like this can definitely add more value to your house. With the economic climate the way it is, we need all the help we can get to add value to our homes. Let me know what cool things you have done in your kitchens!
Jack’s Big Music Show Teaching Mom Things Too
Tuesday, September 30th, 2008There is a blog that I come across every so often that has a picture of dulcimer in it (and of course, I can’t remember the URL at all!). Here is the sad thing — the only reason that I even know what a dulcimer even is is because of Jack’s Big Music Show. This is a show that my kids watch on Noggin (for those of you without kids, Noggin is a kids cartoon network. They have great shows like Jack’s Big Music Show and Yo Gabba Gabba. There also are no commercials, so you won’t be seeing ads for Anoretix, Star Wars, or the new greatest toy ever.) I just find it seriously humorous that I learned something from my children’s programming. Then again, what little Spanish I know is from Dora the Explorer and Diego.
What have you learned from watching your kid’s cartoons?
Big Decisions To Be Made
Monday, September 29th, 2008We decided to join a new church here. We haven’t 100% decided to send Madison to private school yet (we have a school referendum on Nov. 4th. If that passes, it solves all of my issues with the public school. However, after watching the debates of Friday night, that may not hold true either. If McSame, I mean McCain, wins he proposed a spending freeze. In theory, that sounds great. However, the schools don’t have enough money for No Child Left Behind as is. If they keep the amount frozen, that means even less money going towards the kids.) The church we joined is a part of hte private school we are looking at. It is a very cool looking church, and we have been there before. Bill’s friend got married there and his daughter will be baptized there this weekend. We also started working on her tuition. They have a program called VOICE. That has you buy gift certificates from them for stores like Speedway, Kohls, Jiffy Lube, Walgreens, etc. to name a few. A percentage of the purchase amount goes towards the school. Madison has to raise $150 with that. With the certificates I bought on Sunday, we are up $17. Woohoo! The cool thing is that everything we earn over the $150 gets taken off her tuition. If we don’t end up sending her there, I just figure that money will go towards another family who can use it. I just think that is super cool that we can start earning towards this now already! So, if anyone needs gift certificates come Christmas time, let me know!
I’ll be honest, this school decision makes me sick. I get a stomach ache every time I have to think about it. I would rather have to use a colon cleanser than have to make this decision. Public schools are suppose to be good. I shouldn’t have to worry about the class sizes or if subjects like music and art are being taught. I just always assumed that my kids would be able to have the same education I have.
**okay, whine over. I think**
