Planning another vacation . . . Maybe Disney

Posted on January 5, 2009

Yes, I said it.  We are thinking of maybe going to Disney.  I am in the process of trying to talk Bill into it.  They have a great deal going on, so if we don’t set this up soon, we will lose the deal.  However, if you have any advice I’d love to hear it.  We are leaning towards staying at Disney’s Port Orleans:  French Quarter Resort.  I have an 18 month old and Madison will be 5 when we go.  I am trying to research everything I can like how we can avoid Plantar Fasciitis and how to save money while we are there.  I already found super cheap airfare through Southwest.  We also are leaning heavily towards getting the dining plan.  Things we still have to figure out is how long to go for, what disney parks we should see, etc.  If you have been there with small children, I would defintely love to hear from you.

With little kids, it is always best to stay for a longer period of time (if you can) and spread out visiting the parks because it is exhausting. Places like Disney’s Pop Century are great because the pool is open 24/7 and the kids have just as much fun in the pool than anywhere. Disney offers a deal once a year where you can stay at one of their resorts and get a meal plan that is maybe 1/2 price of any other time of the year. I think it’s in October, but I am not positive.

The deal we found was for buy 4 night and get 3 free. It also includes the tickets to the parks too. Also, if we go before March 29, we get a $200 gift card.

You are the first person who has told me to stay longer. However, that is kinda what I was thinking too. My thoughts were to go to the parks first thing in the morning, come back to the hotel to nap, and then go back in the afternoon/evening.

I think whatever your daily plans are, February is a great month to go. It’s one of the lowest attendance months, right before spring break starts, so you’ll zip on and off of rides. The only down side is that you might not be able to swim, but then at least you’re not sweating your buns off all day.

When I checked the temps, it said highs of 74. I also have a 5 year old that could care less how cold it is. LOL

We were looking at pictures of the resort last night, and she told me she was going to have to pack her swimsuit otherwise her clothes were going to get wet. LOL

I’ve never been w/ small children but I’m sure you’ll have lots of fun.

I went to Disney World when I was 14 and I had a little sister who was almost 3. Well they have to be at least 3 to go on just about any ride but she still seemed to love seeing all the disney characters. I think 5 is a great age for Madison to go.

You know, I’ve never been to a Disneyland. Hopefully, someday… :)

Epcot is certainly worth visiting if you are in the Orlando area. When it comes to planning trips, it is good to listen to your gut instincts.

I’ve plenty of good memories of Disneyland…

I’m sure that Madison and Will will love it as well!

Having lived in the Central Florida area for more than 10 years, going to Disney lots and lots of times, and witnessing families from afar, my recommendation would be to wait a little longer. I couldn’t imagine having to care for two small children while carting them around a theme park.

We’re going to Disneyland next week, and a blogging friend directed me to to Jill, who just got her DBA and owns her own Disney vacation itinerary planning business. I assume she charges for it though, but I thought that was pretty cool. Her specialty is DisneyWorld, so I’m sure she might be able to give you some pointers or can answer any questions. I think staying on the resort is awesome, and going to the parks early is always a great idea to beat crowds. Here’s Jill’s website: http://bubbassis.blogspot.com/
