Why do projects always take longer than they should?

I hope everyone had a relaxing Memorial weekend. Unfortunately, I did not.  I started a project that should have taken me a day (or so I thought).  Since we moved Will to a toddler bed, I wanted to reflect that in his room decor.  At the time, it seemed like a great idea.

How hard is it to remove a wallpaper border?  Extremely hard!  Bill took the kids to his moms and five hours later I was done with just the border.  Sigh.  I still had to paint.  No problems there, right?  I wish.  I bought Behr paint with primer in it thinking it would save me time.  No such luck.  After 3 coats of paint and 3 days in that room, we still aren’t done.  It really could use a 4th coat, but I am so done painting.  Part of the problem is that Bill picked suck a dark blue to paint it.  (Sorry no pics — Will is napping right now and well, we aren’t done).  We did get some shelves up.  The other problem is that we made it Handy Manny themed (which Will loves).  There is nothing out there to decorate with, so we are winging it right now with how to decorate the walls.

It looks nice, it’s not done, and it took twice as long as it should.  Why is every project in the house a pain in the butt?

  1. LOL, I know the feeling! We spent a good portion of last summer re-doing every bedroom in this house, and it took way longer than we expected.

Good luck – can't wait to see pictures when it's all done! :)

  2. I think they are such pains in the butt because we always estimate how long a project will take without considering if anything will not go according to plan. Such as the coats of paint in your case. Whenever, I plan a project I always add at least a day to them. Something always seems to arise in my life to delay the home improvement project that I am working on.

Hope all the hard work led to a beautiful new room. Post pictures when you can!

  3. Thanks for dropping by my blog. I totally understand what you mean. I recently decided to paint the walls of one of the rooms in my house. What I estimated to be a one hour job took me more than 3 hours to complete.

  4. Well, it might probably due to our inner part that we must give the most wonderful and perfect parts to our loved ones! Because of this feeling, it takes us twice or thrice the time to finish some projects, especially those in a house!

  5. LOL, I know the feeling!
