A Little Pest Here, A Little Pest There

With that title, you may think I’m talking about the kids. This time, I’m not.  I’m not even talking about the Halloween kids that will be knocking at my door shortly!  :)   Instead,  I’m talking about real pest control.  I’ll be honest — this isn’t something I even thought about until I owned a home.  When we lived in a Aurora, we had a huge pest problem.  We didn’t need termite control or anything like that.  Instead, we kept getting those worm looking bugs.  They covered our basement, and they were just gross.  Here, we just have a box elder issue.  Since they don’t really hurt anything, we just suck it up at this point.  Since we have a snake in the yard (garner snake that is), we don’t need a mice exterminator.  He does it just fine.

Now, my sister in law has a huge bee problem at her house.  She called a company like Terminix (it could have been them for all I know) to come out and spray.  The bees at her house would dive bomb you if you were outside.  Come to find out, the prior owners to their house made wine in their garage, and they think that the bees keep coming back for that.

What kind of pests do you find in your house?  How do you get rid of them?

  1. Don’t know what worm looking bugs are, or box elders & can’t stand snakes (no snakes in my neighborhood) but town across the river’s known for rattlers because of the rock ledges.

We have ladybugs right now and the occasional flea-type looking thing or fruit fly when a potato disappears off the stair ledge where I keep them!

Thank goodness no bees – DD26 is alergic to them!

I don’t like bugs but I hate snakes even more. I think the Northern Michigan weather is a bit cold for what a lot of homeowners get and I wouldn’t trade it lol.

  3. I don’t think you want to know what we find here in Florida. I’ve become used to them by now so no more screaming from me. They are disgusting though! My husband does our pest control, He’s cheap and I can give him the tip of my choice

I don’t mind the ladybugs that look for warmth in the winter. What I hate are the spiders. We have a ton of spiders and my husband sprays around the house at least 4 times a year. When I start seeing more than 1 a week I make him spray again.
