U.S. Cellular recently conducted a survey that showed that 43 percent of individuals are in the ‘seven year itch’ phase with their wireless provider (meaning they are comfortable but suspect they are missing out on something better). It’s no secret that people are frustrated with their wireless experience a lot, but people tolerate less because they don’t believe there is a better option. 56 percent of the respondents admitted to being unhappy with their carrier over the past year but only 35 percent of all respondents have ever broken up with their provider.
A great example of bad service is that I was just on a blogging trip. I had a heck of time with my service in St. Louis! I either had bars or my data plan a lot of the time. It was rare for me to have 5 bars and data. Now, I thought St. Louis was a bigger city, so service area shouldn’t have been an issue. However, when I was complaining that I had no service at the place we were eating, one of the bloggers (who happened to be from St. Louis) knew exactly who my carrier was and said their service sucks in that area. I found that a little telling.

In spite of this overall dissatisfaction, respondents are hesitant to call it quits. More than one-third of respondents say they stick with their current provider because they believe all carriers are the same, it is too much trouble to switch carriers, or they don’t want to sign a new contract.
