Women Needed In Congress!
I know I have yet to go off on one of my feminism rants on here yet, so I am due one. For six years, US Rep. Bobby Rush and others have been trying to advance legislation that addresses postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis. The legislation would require medical professionals to educate new mothers and their families about this before they ever leave the hospital. It would allow new moms to get screened for the disorder during checkups. Lastly, it would increase funding for research at the National Institute of Health. Rush has often said that if postpartum afflicted men that this would have passed in year one. For example, in 1998, Viagra was new to scene. American troops and military retirees were able to get their hands on it. Most health insurance companies will cover it. In contrast, there are still some insurance companies who do not cover birth control. We still pay out of pocket for even the mildest form of infertility. Heaven forbid if you need to pick up insurance on your own, insurance companies will deny you if you have had infertility treatments in the past.
Now, think back to when you had your children? Was one word of this ever mentioned to you? I had Madison 3 1/2 years ago, and even though I knew what it was, no one ever talked to me about it.
Todd Stroger Vs. The Media
Ever feel the need to throttle your public officials? Please remember that I live in Cook County, Illinois where our motto is vote often. Todd Stroger was voted the Cook County President several months ago (don’t get me going on this one — but let me say I did not vote for him!).
Todd was asked what the biggest challenge facing Cook County. Was his answer the $500 billion budget deficit? No. How about the layoffs that had to occur? Nope. The biggest challenge has been the media. What??!!?? What kind of answer is that????? He is mad because the media has portrayed him in a bad light. Well, let’s see. First, quit hiring your friends and family. Then quit putting them in high paying positions. Then don’t make $20 million in changes to the budget after it has been approved.
All the newspapers did was report it. I guess he’s ticked, because the press didn’t bend over for him.
Trademarks and Google
Did you know that when you type Allstate in a Google search, one of the text-based ads that pops up is for State Farm? Go try it. I know I did. This is the very reason that search engines are now getting sued for allowing marketers to buy advertisements tied to searches of their competitors brands, products, or trademarks. Google has been sued in six countries for the trademark infringement. Google response to this is that “We don’t sell trademarks. We sell advertising space.”
So what do you think? It is okay for the search engines to profit on your brand?
