Welcome to the new Oz, Dorothy is a dictator, flying monkeys are slaves(again) and Glinda the supposed good witch is mining for magic in the land of Oz using munchkins as her workers. Gone is the sweet Dorothy you knew and in her place is a ruthless ruler who enjoys torturing people for fun and wants magic, magic, and more magic.

Dorothy Must Die starts out really well introducing us to Amy Gumm who clearly has a difficult life. She gets in trouble (aff) at school for getting into a fight that she didn’t even start and then, when she gets suspended, has to go home (aff) to a lush of a mother who is leaving to go to a party. Then the tornado comes and she’s sucked away to the Land of Oz, only it’s not like the Oz she read about. It’s grey and dreary, and the very few people she meets are terrified and angry. As she makes her way toward The Emerald City she quickly learns of what has become of Oz after Dorothy supposedly went home (aff) to Kansas. Dorothy has completely taken over and has come up with the most absurd rules as Amy realizes when she comes upon a monkey that has been strung up for “The Crime of Sass.” After that, Amy is quickly found out and taken into custody where she is charged with crimes of treason. While in captivity, an old witch named Mombi promises she can get Amy out as long as joins her and The Revolutionary Order of the Wicked who have devoted their time to taking Dorothy and all her minions down. They soon come up with plans for Amy, training her mentally and physically so shecan prepare to infiltrate the castle and kill Dorothy.

This book is definitely not the happy book everyone is so used to and it ends with so many unanswered questions and cliffhangers that it makes me want the second book even more!

I can see how you’d want the next book to continue but gosh, Ijust love an ending and hate hanging with unanswered qestions. Not sure about this one

Sounds like quite a different version from the regular Wizard of Oz (which I always loved), but it does sound interesting to me.

WOW what a spin on the story! Interesting I must say. Looks like a great read that leads you wanting more.

This sound very interesting but so far off from the original Oz. I am going to have to ponder on this one.

This is definitely an interesting take on the original Oz. I have liked some of the remakes and reimagined movies and books that have come out over the last several years and this one is definitely reimagined
