Four Things You Might Not Know About Milk & A Giveaway Too!

I may be aging myself, but do any of you remember the saying “milk does a body good”. Well, come to find out it, it really does! I have been learning a few things about milk that I have to share with you.

Here are 4 things you may or may not know about milk!

  1. Milk is a great source of protein! An 8-ounce glass of milk has 8 grams of high-quality protein. It is very important that kids get protein at every meal, especially breakfast, to help maximize how their bodies use it. According to Obesity, protein at breakfast can help keep kids feel full and satisfied, so they won’t feel hungry by mid-morning! Kids aren't going to learn as well at school if they are hungry!
  2. Milk is the top food source for three of the four nutrients most likely to be missing from kids’ diets – calcium, vitamin D and potassium.Screen Shot 2015-09-20 at 8.27.07 PMAs you can see from this graphic, a lot of what kids are drinking nowadays isn't giving them what they need! Milk is a great way for kids to get their bone-building nutrients – even more so than supplements or alternatives like vegetables or milk-like, fortified beverages, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics.
  3. Not all non-dairy milks have the same nutrients as real milk. I was really shocked to find out thatan 8-ounce glass of dairy milk provides 8 times more protein than a glass of almond milk. All milk is NOT created equal.Screen Shot 2015-09-20 at 9.34.09 PM
  4. We aren't drinking enough milk . This graph shows are little milk we are drinking. If you notice, milk is declining on that list!Screen Shot 2015-09-20 at 10.00.28 PMThis next graphic shows how much we should be drinking!Screen Shot 2015-09-20 at 9.56.20 PMThere is quite a difference between the 2 of these! I know I was shocked. Are you drinking enough milk?

I luck out that my kids absolutely love milk. We go through a ton of milk in our house on a weekly basis. My kids pediatrician always asks us how much milk the kids are drinking and they strongly recommend that kids drink enough milk. In our household, the kids have milk as part of their breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

Since this is so important, I have arranged fortwo of my lucky readers to receive a gift card worth the amount of a free month’s supply of milk (valued at $18 per month)! Here's what you need to do:

I’m not much of a milk drinker but my kids are. I used to be a huge fan of milk mostly for cereal. Now I love for a huge bowl of ice cream.

My kids are huge MILK drinkers. They have loved it since they were little and I actually have to cut them off on a daily basis to ensure there is some for breakfast the next day. I can never get enough milk in the house! I guess its a good thing eh?

  7. Liz Mays

You always have to have at least a gallon of milk in the refrigerator. It’s so nutritious and it’s used in so many recipes!

  8. Annemarie LeBlanc

Very informative article. My kids love milk and even if they are all grown, they still chug it down like it is water. I love milk too, but I have to get the low fat kind.

  9. Julie (xfallenmoon)

I love milk but I keep hearing back and forth arguments about whether dairy is actually good for you or not. I don’t deny that it has a TON of essential nutrients, and I keep drinking it, but I wonder sometimes if we really shouldn’t.

Everyone in my home loves milk. I would buy gallons and it wouldn’t last long.

I always get confused about milk. Some people say we don’t need it, others swear by it! We drink whole milk to avoid all the gross stuff and nutrients stripped when they make skim milk.

  25. Uplifting Families

I have never been a huge milk drinker. So naturally my kids don’t drink it very much. I need to start offering it to my youngest more often.
