You may have read my prior post about GE Lighting Champions for Kids. In that post, I discussed the Champtions for Kids and GE's partnership. Did you know that if every household in the US replaced ONE incandescent bulb with a GE energy smart® bulb, we would save $600 MILLION a year in national energy costs, enough energy to light 3 MILLION homes, and prevent greenhouse gases equal to 800 THOUSAND cars. Now, walk around your home, how many light bulbs could you be saving with?
I am participating in this month’s Champions For Kids SIMPLE Service Project. My family and I donated light bulbs to one of our favorite places — Our Lady Of The Ridge. This is our church and where my kids go to school. They have a commitment to the children in our community. They even look at the kids in other communities too! We've collected food for the food drive. We are also collecting money for the Hurricane Sandy victims too.
Part of this service project was donating some energy saving light bulbs to a cause that helped kids. I was to also give a coupon to a friend, so they could pay it forward also. As you will see in my shop below, Joanna joined me at Walmart. She also bought and donated energy saving light bulbs to our school too!
As you can see, we had fun shopping! You too can take the GE Energy Smart Challenge! After you take the challenge, you can nominate a school or charity to win a $100 Walmart Gift Card! (And what school can’t use that?)
Now, like I said above, Joanna and I both donated our light bulbs to our kids' school. We went and talked to the maintenance man to find out what bulbs were the best fit, since 99% of our school is lit with the same bulbs. It was super funny because our principal could see me walking up with the bulbs, and even said to me laughing “anybody else I would think it was strange, but you not so much” (I also donate when I can to the school to help where it is needed, so I literally will walk up with strange things and ideas we can do lol). She really got a kick out of this Champions for Kids campaign — enough so that she let me take a picture! Thank you Sister Stephanie for being such a great sport!
Are you involved with the GE Lighting Champions for Kids initiative? If so, what are you doing? Would you consider donating some energy saving light bulbs to your kid's school to help them save money?
As part of my partnership with GE, I received coupons for my GE light bulbs. All opinions posted about my GE Lighting experience are my own. I am a member of the Collective Bias™ Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias™ Champions for Kids and GE Lighting #CBias #SocialFabric
That's a great idea. GE's really onto something with merging environmentalism and altruism. Sure it's a marketing tactic but honestly everyone wins in this situation!
It's amazing how much money you can save with energy efficient bulbs! I know the school really appreciated your donation!
Genius to shop year round for donation toys! Love that the kids were involved in the process. Also love that you picked the USO. Not living close to one I had no idea how many cool things they did!
