Have you heard of GoldieBlox? They are an award winning toy company out to disrupt pink toy aisles everywhere. If you know my daughter, Madison, she is not a girly girl at all. This is a kid who never played with dolls and up until recently, didn't like the color pink. Two years ago, Stanford engineer Debbie Sterling made it her mission to tackle the gender gap in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and help prove that girls are just as good as boys. Debbie’s interactive book series + construction toys for girls, has rocketed from a prototype to the 2014 Toy of the Year, featured everywhere from the Today Show to Good Morning America, Elle, and the New York Times. GoldieBlox even won Intuit’s contest for a Super Bowl ad along the way! That is why I was excited to try out GoldieBlox with Madison.
When I was telling my best friend about how Madison and I were going to build something using the brand new GoldieBlox Builder's Survival kit, she was totally excited. We were sent the Goldieblox Builders Survival Kit, theGoldieblox and the Movie Machine, andGoldieblox and the Parade Float, but Madison decided out of all of this she wanted to build the Tea Cups which had a basic set of directions in the Builders Survival Kit. My friend had heard of GoldieBlox too but wanted to see the kits for herself. That is how we ended up having a mother/daughter GoldieBlox playdate. Moms and daughters working together on engineering a project — what more could you ask for? (Madison also plans on building a zephyr next week with the Builders Survival Kit. You have to love that she's already thinking about her next project!)
Once Cadence agreed to build the Tea Cups, we got to work making sure we had all the pieces we needed —
We next started building:
The girls were able to follow the directions pretty easily and add their own flair to it. That's the beauty of GoldieBlox — you don't have to follow the directions. You can make it into your own thing, they just give you a blueprint of how to start a lot of really cool creations.
I'll be honest – the hardest part of this project was not the construction of the pieces (which you may think it would be). Instead, we struggled with getting the tea cups to stay together! After several tries, we finally did get to work and I have to admit they are pretty cute.
The girls were totally proud of themselves, and with a little help from us moms, they built this little invention in a little less than an hour.
As I stated above, Madison wants to keep this together for the rest of the week, but she is already planning her next build. I love how that the Builders Survival Kit has kept her interested and wanting to build more! That is why I have arranged for one lucky reader to win a GoldieBlox Prize Pack. Here's what you need to do:
What do you think you'd love most about the Goldieblox kits?
I have all boys 🙁
This looks amazing! My daughter would enjoy this – great way to use their creativity!
That looks fantastic, and I love that they’re encouraging girls to build.
What a cute building set, glad to see more physics and science toys for girls.
I have two little girls who love building sets and science sets. This would be perfect for their after-school playdates with school friends.
I love that girls can have fun doing it and be encouraged to use their creativity.
I think my girl would love these too! They are very hands on.!

That is a fantastic STEM based activity. I think my tween would be totally in to this!
My daughter isn’t all that girly either. She would love to create her own projects. I think the fact that you don’t need to follow the directions exactly is a definite plus.
I love stuff like this for girls. My girls love building with Legos so they would love this. I’m going to add it to my christmas shopping list! Thanks!!
I’ve been hearing so many good things about these Goldie Blox. I think my girls would love them.

These are awesome and I could see some boys wanting to play with them too. I like that there is now a building toy focused on girls though.
It seems this box isn’t just about building a girl’s self-esteem but encouraging team work. My girls love building things together, just like the boys love working with each other. My girls would love this. That is a cute tea cups, makes me think of Disneyland.
