Growing Up

It is hard to believe that Madison is 9 years old now. In the last year, she has grown up more than all the other years combined. I swear that this year the hormones have already kicked in. We already have the teenage mood swings. She’s already started to wear some Ladieswear. The kids feet are bigger than mine too! She thinks that is the coolest thing ever. Me? Not so much. It just made her clothes and her shoes that much more expensive. I’m paying more for stuff for her than I do myself!

Another part of growing up that I allowed her to do this weekend was to get contacts. Now, yes, 9 is a bit young for contacts. It seems like all of her friends are just getting glasses right now. However, Madison has been wearing glasses since she was three. When we went to the eye doctor in August for her annual exam, I had asked then already about contacts (even before Madison asked about them). They told me then that they base it on a kid by kid basis, and if I thought she was ready, they would fit her. Well, right after Madison turned nine (at the beginning of this month), she asked. I got her an appointment, and she now has contacts! It’s been a bit of a learning curve for her to put them in and take them out, but she thinks she’s the best thing since sliced bread!

What big changes have your kids gone through to show you how they are growing up (and making you feel that much older?)

  1. I have to wear reading glasses and hate them, but cannot for the life of me wear contacts. :/ I’m glad she is able to and they make her fee more comfortable. And, yes, they do grow up way too fast.

  2. Oh man…. That’s right about the age that my (now) teen hit what could have been teen age for attitude and all that jazz! I feel like I’m raising myself haha. My poor mom!
