Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise #greatstarts

If you are a regular reader here, you will know that I lost 80 pounds over the last year. Now, with the thyroid issue I have now (Hashimotos), I have gained some of it back. However, I have kept the majority of the weight off. I have done this through a variety of methods. I'm even slowly taking some of this weight back off again.

As you know, I've been working with Kellogg's with some great tips for all of our lives. Tip #24 (this week's tip) from Kellogg's is called What My Dietician Told Me. I think it is pretty awesome that I have been following these tips in my own life.

Having a Great Start is important for everyone. If you don't start your morning off right, it really leads to a not so good day for both you and everyone around you.

One of the great takeaways from this slideshow is to add a bottle of water to the list of things you can't leave the house without. I try to drink about half my body weight in ounces of water a day. Some days I do it; some days it is a struggle. However, by always have a bottle of water with me, it makes achieving this so much easier. I find that I'm not hungry all the time when I am constantly drinking water too! (You may have different results than me with drinking water.)

I use to skip breakfast all the time. However now, I make a point to sit down every morning and eat breakfast with my kids. It's great quality time together as we enjoy one of the many Kellogg's cereals or Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Cereal Bars. It is also a great foundation to start the days.

Another great tip included is that food is fuel. It is. You wouldn't run your car without gas; why would you run your body without the very things it needs to function every day? I know I feel better when I eat on a regular basis!

Lastly, there is the tip about if you make healthy choices 80% of the time, it's okay to indulge the other 20%. I totally live by this tip! You don't have to give up everything you love!

Which of these tips do you follow in your life? Which of these tips do you want to do better with? (For me, it's still a challenge to drink all the water I need to on a daily basis and I tend to have water bottle everywhere, because I ended up bringing them places and leaving them!)

I am a water drinker. I live in the desert southwest so it’s pretty easy to remember to always have a bottle of water with me (I put it in the car in the morning and drink it on the way to the flower shop and when I go out on a delivery I take one, too). I pack a cooler with ice (a small one made for a 6-pack) to keep the water cold, too. And I have discovered an unopened bottle of water is the one thing you can take into a sporting event or other public place without having to leave it. The side effect: I have to piddle all the time!!

I too am on a life style journey….one of the hardest things for me is to drink water. Never leaving without it might be the motivation I need to drink more water. I have a new water bottle and I leave it in the cupboard. I will get it out and take it with me every time I leave the house. Thanks for the suggestion!

I think one of the best tips ever to lose weight is to drink as much water as possible!! It keeps you full and stops you from snacking on junk!

Congrats on losing 80 pounds, wow! I always start my day with a big glass of water and a healthy breakfast.

  6. Stefani

I am a big time water drinker. I drink ice water all day and try to encourage my kids to do the same. I picked up the habit from watching my mom drink water and tell me it would make me look younger longer!

  7. Pam

I always try to get a great start to the day with a healthy breakfast. I need to drink more water though.

  8. Onica {MommyFactor}

Taking a bottle of water with you is a great tip. It really does helps to avoid dehydration. I try to carry one with me everywhere I do. Even if it’s a mini bottle

  9. Deborah

Ok, my favorite tip is the 80/20 tip. That gives me 20% indulgence. I can live with that, like working for that 80% and then I get the cherry on top 🙂

  10. I’m working on improving the water drinking. It’s not easy. I do keep a bottle of water by my bed and I go to that quite a bit in the night so I’m glad I’m at least taking in that much!

  11. Mama to 5 BLessings

I fail miserably at drinking enough water for the day. This is something I so need to do especially being on a diet!

  12. Janeane Davis

It is very important to drink a sufficient amount of water each day. I had to make a trip to the hospital once due to dehydration, it is a very real and very serious problem.

  13. I NEVER drink enough water. I’m on thyroid meds, a diuretic, training for a half marathon AND nursing babies, so I really, really need to…but I’m always dehydrated. I wish I could find a way to fix that bad habit. You’ve inspired me for today, at least! Off to fill my cup…

  14. trisha

I know its probably bad, but I could NOT start my day with water! I think I would gag.

  15. Malia

I definitely need to drink more water! I also tend to skip breakfast, which I know isn’t good. I should really start having something for breakfast, that way I won’t over eat throughout the day.

  16. Amanda Love

I know it’s bad for me but I still skip breakfast. I have to be at work at 0530 on mornings and it’s work nonstop from the time I get there. I usually grab something later in the day but I do need to start eating a healthy balanced breakfast.

  17. Ashley

I have Hashimotos too, I have had great results going gluten free 🙂
