Have you been to the new showcase out at the Morton Arboretum? If not, you have to go. It is the most spectacular holiday lights display that you will see this year!
Illumination takes you on a one mile walking trail over approximately 50 acres of the Arboretum's 1700 acre grounds.
Illumination features more than 500 carefully placed LED and Arc lighting fixtures, and 20 miles of cable.
You can even get your hands on these cool gloves in the gift shop. The kids thought it made their night even better!
There are 8 spots to stop: Treeflections (a grove of trees becomes a living canvas for dynamic scenes), tinsel colonnade (lights, colors, and sounds cascade down from the trees branches), shadow lanterns (patterns of lights and shadows move with the wind in this section), tree harmony (sing to black walnut trees and watch them change color), crystal chandeliers (lights sparkle and glow from beautiful chandeliers decorating the trees), island of light (make the trees change colors with the wave of your hand), personalitrees (see your face projected onto 30 ft tall evergreens), and hug a tree (embrace a juniper and see how the colors respond to your hug).
Now, if you head out there, let me tell you, my iphone took better pictures than my DSLR!
Illumination only runs till January 4, 2014, so make sure you see it before it goes away!
My kids loved the hug the tree the most, but they enjoyed the evening there!
Now, when we went it was raining and was just beautiful, I'm hoping to head out there again now that there is snow on the ground. I can only imagine how amazing it would be with snow!
Since my family loved this so much, I have arranged for one lucky reader to win a family pass, so you too can experience Illumination. Here's what you need to do:
