Jazz Up Family Movie Night with These Cool Ideas

This is a guest post. (1)
Now that the cold weather is here, it’s time to find some great activities to do indoors with your kids. What better way to spend quality time than to curl up together and watch a movie? Family movie night doesn’t have to be boring either. You can really jazz things up and make it fun for any age or gender. No matter what your budget is, you can find cute ideas to turn an old pastime into a new family tradition.

Come Up with a Theme

Why not come up with a theme for your movie night? Qeueu up some good family movies to watch and center your theme on the movie. For example, if your kids want to watch Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (aff), your theme could be centered on that movie. Maybe make large meatballs for appetizers or bake an oversized pizza for everyone to enjoy.

Get Creative with the Food

Once you’ve gotten your theme in mind you need to consider the menu. Watching Snow White with your little princess? Why not make candy apples as a treat? Does your little boy love the movie Cars? If so, you can make cupcakes and stick a small racecar on top of each one. Make it fun, and if you can tolerate it… let the kids help out with making the snacks. Not sure what to make? Search the internet for great snack recipes. You can find them for all occasions and can add your own flare to make it fit your theme.

Decorate Your Home (aff)

To really get into the theme of your movie night, you can set the mood with some cool decorations and activities for the kids. You can check a party store to find themed plates and paper products for the children to eat on. Think outside of the box for decorations. If you have little girls and you’re watching a princess movie, try to find small tiaras for them to put on. Again, it all depends on the theme of your movie and the age of your children. Also adding in a few games or arts and crafts is a great way to keep them occupied until you’re ready to start the show.

Invite a Few Guests

Family movie night can be whatever you want it to be. If you have some family members, friends, or neighbors with kids your age, you can invite them over to partake in the festivities. The kids can have fun playing games and partaking in activities, while the adults enjoy each other’s company. Have children from varying age groups? You can set up another room in your house to be a separate movie theater for them to enjoy a movie they would prefer.

Setting Up the Theater

The cool thing about watching movies with the kids at home (aff) is you get to be comfortable. Throw down some bean bag chairs, pillows, or sleeping bags for the kids to sit on and enjoy the movie. If you’re really looking to give off the whole movie vibe, you can create your own little movie tickets for the kids to give you before entering. They’ll love the idea of being able to pretend with you. If you want, you can give them play money and even write the menu selection on a poster board as if you’re the concession stand. Allow one of your kids to take the orders for even more fun. (You can even incorporate a math lesson by having them count out the money and giving change)

Family movie night will never be the same again if you begin incorporating ideas such as those described above. There are plenty of ideas on the internet if you need further inspiration, and you can make this night as elaborate or as simple as you’d like. All that’s left to do is kick back and enjoy your feature.

I think movie night is a great thing. Everything in moderation, however. One doesn’t want to become a couch potato. I have just found this blog, and I think it’s pretty neat and well laid out… 🙂 Thanks, @yessickart
