With New Years right around the corner, are you ready? Do you have some healthy living resolutions you are making this year? Or do you have some health issues in your family that you are constantly working around like lactose intolerance or gluten free? Marianos has health key™ tags to make your shopping even easier!
Now, I have had several #MyMarianos experiences, so I could have easily showed you how the tags have helped with my own lactose intolerance (yes, they have healthy tags that show “no lactose”). Instead, I wanted my friend Diana to have her very own Mariano's experience. She had never shopped Mariano's before, so I was able to give her a tour of the store while we shopped for gluten free ingredients. Now, I have been helping Diana for the last year shop for gluten free items. Until Mariano's came around, finding gluten free items has been incredibly difficult in our area. Most places just don't carry them or if they do, they are incredibly expensive. Diana's family has gone gluten free due to one of her sons having alopecia. (Alopecia is a type of hair loss that occurs when your immune system mistakenly attacks hair follicles.) Through research she has done, she found out that eliminating gluten from their diets could help. Instead of having food in her home (aff) her son can't eat, they elected as a household to go gluten free, and I have been helping them find gluten free foods ever since.
Now, Mariano's gluten free section was “amazing”, and I am quoting Diana on that. She was absolutely floored that they had a frozen (aff) food selection on top of having a shelf stable section on top of having gluten free items throughout the store labeled with the gluten free tag that you see above (another thing we noticed is that if you look above the tag itself on the price tag on the shelf, it is also noted on there what the healthy tag is).
She even told me finding kits like this are terribly hard to find normally:
Now, instead of a boxed kit, we decided after our Mariano's trip that we were going to make some homemade cookies that everybody would love. I even had Diana sign up for aMariano’s Rewards Cardfor even more savings. She was shocked how affordable everything was on our shopping trip.
We decided to make some Gluten Free Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies. (My husband didn't even realize there was no gluten in these cookies, so a double win!)
Ingredients:
2 (aff) eggs, lightly beaten
1 cup of sugar
1 cup of creamy peanut butter
Half a bag of gluten free chocolate chips
Whisk eggs and sugar together. Let stand for 5 minutes until the sugar dissolves.
Stir in peanut butter.
Stick in fridge for about 5-10 minutes.
Measure about 1 tbsp of dough and roll into a ball.
Place on baking sheet at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes (until edges are golden brown).
Makes 2 (aff) dozen cookies.
These cookies are super delicious, gluten free, and just fun to make (and shopping for the ingredients was a fun experience!). If you want to learn more about Mariano's make sure you follow them on Twitter and Facebook!
How would you use these health key tags? Are there any other gluten free recipes I should try?
Hi,
wow… I really love this post. The information in this article is really unique and useful for me. After reading this article, I think I have some ideas for myself. I do follow your articles recently. Thanks for sharing this post. Hope to read more interesting information from you. Great job!
Thanks for sharing… I always try to keep things as natural as possible, it can be a bit hard at times!! Thanks again!
I’m a firm believer in making things from scratch whenever possible. Even the “healthier” boxed mixes still usually contain preservatives and more of the “bad stuff” that I try to stay away from. These cookies look exceptional! 🙂
They were! My husband was like “I forgot how much I love peanut butter cookies”. The kicker is that we’ve been married 12 years and I didn’t even know he like peanut butter cookies!
I want some!
Those are gluten free? They look awesome!
Yep! They taste awesome too!
those look delish! we are going to friends’ tomorrow for NYE and another couple going is gluten free- i may just make these to bring 🙂
These were so easy to make!
@FreeSampleMomma I did not know that Betty Crocker had so many gluten free choices. Thanks for sharing those pictures.
Looks wonderful
These cookies sound good.
I make something like this with almond butter, I always wondered if it would work with peanut butter 🙂 Did they turn out as yummy as they look?
Yes! They were fantastic!
Let me AT ’em!
Let me AT ’em!
PB and chocolate… my favorite combo!
PB and chocolate… my favorite combo!
I relate SO MUCH to your story! I have a friend whose child has alopecia and they went gluten free as well. Marianos just built a store near our home in a suburb of Chicago. I had never heard of them before and my son got a job working there. He is a Marianos “Snob” now because he says their quality is so good that we cant shop anywhere else LOL. I truthfully have not made it is there yet due to the parking situation, but I can wait to get in there and grab some Gluten Free foods for my daughter who has been getting her arthritis under control after changing her diet.
It’s totally worth going. They really did make shopping for gluten free really easy.
Awesome cookies! Love looking ahead!
I love that they are making it so easy to shop gluten free. That is such a big thing for a lot of families.
The cookies look super yummy! 🙂

Gluten free cookies are a great treat. Definitely remembering this!
That plate of cookies and cup of milk look fabulous! 🙂 Who would have guessed they were gluten free? 🙂
Those look so yummy. I’ll share this with my sister who is always looking for good gluten free recipes.
I love this recipe! I wish we had such a nicely organized store with that much gluten free products!
Those look great! It’s hard to believe they are gluten free. I think it’s great that the store makes it so easy to know what you’re getting. So many people are gluten intolerant or have other dietary problems. It’s nice that they make it easy to shop for what you need.
Mmmm!!
I see more and more gluten free products available everywhere. This is a sign of the times, and a good one at that!
Yummy cookies!
These look so tasty! I would ever try them!
Sounds so good!
Peanut butter AND chocolate chips?! I’m sold!
I used to work for a company that had a shelf tag program like this, and I helped to launch and promote it. It’s really such a helpful things since so many customers want to make changes but don’t know exactly how.
Thanks for sharing the recipe! And… I didn’t know that mariano’s had a gluten free section!
Looks like the perfect texture! Great for being gluten-free!
I have been gluten free for years – okay trying. It is getting easier as the food is getting so much better.
I had no idea how many delicious gluten-free options were out there, and I’m totally jealous you’re in Mariano’s range!
This store looks amazing. I don’t think they’ve opened up in NYC, but they absolutely should! There are so many people who are lactose-intolerant, vegan, diabetic, etc.. and I know this would be a huge hit in Park Slope, Brooklyn for sure!
looks delicious!
i like this brand, I have used it myself. Your recipe sounds delicious!
I am alway glad to see that there are so many options for those with food issues. These cookies look so yummy, I love the combination of peanut butter and chocolate!
Those cookies look delicious and I love that they are gluten free. I have several people in my life that need to avoid gluten so I am always looking for options.
The cookies look delicious and the recipe seems easy to follow. I am not into Gluten free food, but I am curious about it and this seems like a nice way to get to know this way of eating better.
These look awesome. I have a GF friend who says GF never tastes great, but I bet these would change her life, haha!
These seem perfect. I am trying to go mostly gluten free and have had trouble finding goodies I like.
It’s nice to see more recipes that prove gluten free CAN be delicious. Mariano’s happens to be my new favorite place to grocery shop!
Great recipe. My wife is GF because she is breastfeeding and out baby is allergic. So this is the perfect treat
These cookies look great!!! It has been a while since I made homemade cookies. I will have to give these a try. 🙂 #client
Kris
I’m so glad your friend was able to find a plethora of gluten free items! I love how easy Mariano’s makes it to clearly see when an item is gluten free. #client
