“Is This Thing On?” A Computer Handbook for Late Bloomers, Technophobes, and the Kicking & Screaming is the perfect Christmas gift for the non technical person you know. For me, this is my mom. I love her dearly, but she doesn't even know how to turn the computer on. At one point, I think we wrote her directions out, but this book is ten times better. The book starts out assuming that you know nothing about computers (which is an awesome starting point. Most books I've seen assume you have some sort of understanding). It talks you through why you want a computer, how to buy it, how to set it up (without having to pay the GeekSquad to come to your house), and it even shows you how to get online and send email! It teaches you about instant messaging and blogs too. It walks you through digital photography and even items like cell phones, ipods, and blackberries. This is must have guide for anyone who isn't online due to fear. Is This Thing On? doesn't talk down to you and really makes it extremely understandable with its clear language and illustrations. This book gets my two thumbs up!

This book is sure to be a runaway bestseller! There are so many people who really DON'T know how to even turn on the computer, much less make it do it's magic 🙂
Thanks for the tip! I definitely will get this for my sister. I work in technology and love it and she is a total dinosaur. (She admits it!)
This would be great for my Mom too, except that she doesn't even own a computer. Good idea and I'm sure it will be a bestseller.
This book quite good and found to be best seller as it suitable for all age people and everyone will fall in love…
This would be the perfect gift for my mom. She has so many problems when it comes to using any type of technology!
I have a few relatives that could use this.
That book would be awesome for my mother-in-law, for sure!!
I agree with all of the above. What a great book! And a great gift for mom, dad, mother-in-law, grandpa…Okay, full disclosure. I'm Abby and I wrote "Is This Thing On?". Lisa, thank you for your wonderful review. I hope you do all buy the book and that I hear from whoever you buy it for.
Great review. This is a book that my dad needs. Oh, and I like your header, too. It's really cute. – Jeff
