Rebellions are built on hope: Star Wars Rogue One Review #NoSpoilers

Some days I love my job. Today is one of these days. My family and I are huge Star Wars fans. Will was a Storm Trooper for Halloween and you all saw my post about attending the Star Wars Luncheon at the Chicago Toy and Game Fair. Needless to say, my family isn't happy that I won't tell them anything about Rogue One and its awesomeness.

First, let me start by saying this isn't like any Star Wars you've seen before. The imagery tells the story as much as the actors do. They get all the details right. Rogue One tells the story of a group of unlikely heroes who, in a time of conflict, band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star. The movie brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and, in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves. (So many parallels to what is going on today). I can't go much more into the story without spoiling it for you.

Which character did I love the most? Surprisingly, it wasn't Jyn! (Though hats off to the Star Wars franchise for having strong female characters. As a mother of a teenage girl, it is much appreciated).

Let me introduce you to K-2SO. He made me laugh more than I want to admit. His attitude, well, that's why I loved him so much. Logical. Literal. And funny. A robot with a soul.

I laughed. I cried. I was shocked. I think I may have felt almost every emotion watching this film. Few movies can do that nowadays. The best part of Rogue One was that it is truly a standalone film. You do not have to be a Star Wars fan to enjoy. It is my favorite of all the Star Wars out there (and that says a lot). There is something for everyone in this film.

I leave you with my favorite quote from Rogue One: Rebellions are built on hope. Remember that when you run to the theaters on December 16th.

I have never seen a Star Wars movie. But that does not mean I never will because I do enjoy watching films and lately sci-fi has caught my interest because I read books with those kinds of imagery. This sounds like a good one.
