The Sleeping Beauty

The Sleeping Beauty is what you think this book is about. It's not the fairy taile but instead a story about a young, 11-year-old girl named Lena Gabrielle She wants to attend the debut performance of The Sleeping Beauty (aff) at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg in 1890. Her father tells his that the performance is sold out, so Lena Gabrielle begins her secret journey through the streets of the fabulous historic city in an effort to get to the Mariinsky to see the ballet. During her travels ,statues come alive, and she meets an endearing old man (Tchaikovsky). He leads her to the door of the Mariinsky and shows her the stage where the ballet will be performed. When Lena Gabrielle touches the curtain, it parts; and she sees with her own eyes the entire Sleeping Beauty ballet unfold before her.

The beauty of the book is that both you and your kids aren't quite sure what has happened. Did she really see the performance or did her imagination come with a fantastic story? This classic story was taken directly from the first English translation of the French tale – on which the ballet is based. This book is also filled with illustrations that were overseen by the curatorial staff of The Mariinsky Theatre to ensure accuracy of representation. I am 100% serious when I tell you that you will enjoy this book just from the accuracy alone! The illustrations are fantastic and tell the story all on their own.

I can only recommend The Sleeping Beauty (aff). Since that is the case, I have arranged for one lucky winner to win a copy! Here's what you need to do:
