Ringling Brothers Circus

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

I’ve been meaning to get this post up, but Will’s been sick again (hence the lack of posts again.  It’s hard to put a couple of thoughts together when you are living on less than 4 hrs of nonstraight sleep a night).  That being said I have to tell you about the circus.

My kids had never been to the circus before this.  Bill and I hadn’t been in the circus in years.  I’m glad to report that we were happily surprised! There were a lot of things we remembered from the circus, but it has changed!

As always, there were clowns:

I didn’t remember dancing at all when I was younger, but it was very cool:

I did remember elephants and my kids loved them too:

Though I didn’t remember magic before, but it was pretty cool:

They even had people shooting out of cannons:

As you can see, there was a ton to watch.  My kids loved the circus and mom and dad enjoyed it too!  Madison’s favorite part was the magic, and Will loved the elephants.  I think this is a show we will attend next year!  If it hasn’t come to your town yet, make sure you get tickets.  You won’t be disappointed.

Sick and Sicker

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

I didn’t drop off the face of the earth.  I swear.  Instead, everyone in my house has decided to get sick including me.  Seriously.  I started with Will and his nasty cough that was keeping him up all night.  He still has the nasty cough a week later, but it’s not keeping him up.  Then we had me and my runny nose/sore throat.  Mine is off and on and more annoying than anything else.  Lastly, we have Madison.  Oh my Madison.  If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know what happened.  She threw up.  Now, if you read my blog regularly, you’ll know what happens when Madison throws up.  We end up in the hospital.  That’s been our life when this happens.  However, remember, we met with her geneticist, and we had a game plan.  Guess what?  The game plan worked!  We kept her hydrated with the special concoction we had to make for her.  She already has went back to school and no hospital visit!  Now, we have to manage to not get the flu again.  To make up for my blogging delay, here’s a picture of Bill and I on Halloween:

Banana Shpeel

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

For me, any show that is called Banana Shpeel is something I’d love to win tickets to go and see.  I love the fact that this show looks extremely fun and extremely playful and super funny.  Check out this video for a little background information on this show:

I love how the clowns look. They aren’t your normal run of the mill clowns which draws me in.  This whole show reminds me of an event that took place at Izeafest last year –

2852489316_284baaedf8_tThis is how we spent most of Izeafest. Except, I kept getting stuck driving. If you know me, that is not a good thing. It’s not that I am a bad driver, I just have no sense of direction. At all.  Heather and Christine will remember a fun trip home after one of the events.  Since I didn’t drink that night, I was the sober driver for the evening.  Now, the event was held in downtown Orlando.  Our hotel wasn’t there (it was cheaper at this other place).  This should be pretty easy because it was a straight shot there, right?

Well, if you have never been in downtown Orlando, everything is seriously one way.  If you have no sense of direction, you are screwed.  We kept using this Marriott hotel as our point of reference, and all we could figure out to do was drive around the stupid thing.  We could never even figure out how to get close to it.  The worst was when we ended up what looked like it could have been a pretty bad neighborhood.  We ended up stopping at mall and asking the security for directions.  So picture this, three lost women at 1 am in the morning in completely the wrong city and two of them had been drinking all evening.  Needless to say, it was not a pretty picture.  :)   We did get back in once piece.  Sort of.  Since this was a rental car, I had no idea how to use it.  We thought we locked it and turned the lights off.  Well, we didn’t.  If Heather’s daughter wouldn’t have noticed when she returned to the hotel after us, we would have had a dead battery or an ax murderer in the backseat!

Now, the Banana Shpeel show should be way better than my crazy driving experience in Orlando.  (This year we stayed nice and close and cabbed it everywhere).  It’s a comedy show with tap, hip hop, eccentric dance and slapstick, all linked by a hilarious narrative that ignites a succession of wacky adventures.  With the economy in dump, this is just the show most of need to forget our problems and enjoy ourselves (even if its only for a couple of hours).  I’m super excited that it’s coming here to Chicago!  Tell me you don’t want to see this show after seeing this:

It just looks like a super fun time, and I hope I’ll get a chance to see it while they are here in Chicago!

Disney On Ice

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

I just realized I never told you all about our awesome trip to Disney On Ice.  This was a first for both Bill and I and the kids.  After having gone now, I can only highly recommend it.  It was awesome, kept the kids attention, and the tickets are worth every penny.  This was Will’s favorite part of the show:

Some other great pictures:

As you can see, the show was awesome.  My kids loved it.  It was 100 Years of Magic, so we got to see all the Disney characters.  We will definitely be heading back next year!

Early Intervention

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

I question I seem to be getting a lot lately is how Early Intervention has been working for Will.  All I can say is that it is amazing.  I am so glad I pushed to get him into this program, because everyone has noticed a change with him.  Before, Will wasn’t even trying to talk.  Instead, he’d point and grunt, and if you couldn’t figure out what he wanted, he turned into a pile of screaming 2 year old.  It was frustrating for everyone involved.

Now, he talks.  Granted, we may not understand all of it.  However, we can make out a lot of it.  He is using phrases.  He is able to communicate.  Bill’s brother (who is I think 22 or 23) even noticed a change in Will.  That’s what is so wonderful about nipping this speech problem right away instead of waiting.  I had a lot of people tell me that he wasn’t behind, and he’d talk when he wanted too.  Well, he did talk when he wanted — he just had a little help.

Now, we still are no where near where he needs to be, but by adding just a few more words and getting him wanting to communicate has made a huge difference here.
