What I am thankful for . . . .

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

If you ever watch Noggin, you will know that they have commercial free programming (and I love them for it.).  In between shows, they will put on videos and little mini cartoons.  Yesterday, one of the fill ins was with Joe (I think) from Blues Clues.  He was talking about what he was thankful for.  After it was over, Madison proceeded to tell me “I’m thankful for my little brother”.  It was the cutest thing ever.

Halloween Madness

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

How was your Halloween? Here is Chicago we had a beautiful day. The last two Halloweens it was so cold that we have to dress the kids in layers of berghaus clothing, and they were still cold after about an hour. Not that they wanted to quit trick or treating or anything, but I was worried about how cold it was. However, this year, we didn’t have that problem. I think it was almost 70 degrees out.  I definitely had the kids and myself overdressed.  I actually found myself sweating at times.  Isn’t that crazy?

We went with my neighbors and their kids and ended up trick or treating for about two hours.  About half way through, we went back to our houses and got a wagon.  Will was getting super heavy a that point.  Bill would have been here to help, but he got stuck in a huge traffic jam trying to come home (obviously, everyone had the same idea to leave early).  After the third house, I quit walking Will to the door.  His 27 pounds gets quite heavy when you have to walk up porch steps several time.  However, Madison made sure he was taken care of.  She asked at almost every house for candy for her little brother.  Then she would run to Will and put it in his pumpkin.  It was cute, but highly embarassing for me.

After two hours, Bill ended up getting home, and we went to his brothers house.  We were suppose to trick or treat over there, but the kids were pretty much done (which was fine with me, because I was beat).  We just ended up ordering pizza, and the kids just played together.

All in all it was a pretty good day.  How about you?  How did you spend your Halloween?

Will’s First Haircut

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

I’d like to start by saying that I didn’t want to cut his hair.  I like the little curls he had in the back of his hair.  I thought they were cute.  However, everyone and their brother was bugging me to cut his hair.  When everybody else was getting their hair done on Sunday, I thought there would be no better time to do this.  Now, you can’t tell how curly from this picture, but it was pretty bad (and cute).  Will has such fine hair, so I did not want to do a buzz cut.  It would look like he had no hair if we did that (especially if we were in a low light situation which a lot of my house. We have corners in our house that we get about as much light as tea light candles give off). Bill agreed, so at least, we didn’t have to fight over that.  When we got home, Will was due for a nap and was not in the mood for pictures.  However, I did get this one.  This is Will with his new haircut.  What do you think?  (Bill thinks he looks like a little man.)

The Basement Remodel: Drywall

Friday, May 16th, 2008

The basement is definitely coming together nicely.  They have started the drywall and are working on getting the bathroom all together.  The shower stall is installed now.  They just have to add the faucets and the door to it.  I have to admit that Bill did a good job picking out the shower unit.  Bill’s job this weekend is to finish putting the can lights in.  His brother is coming to finish running the phone and cable lines.  We have a seriously busy weekend ahead of us.

The Basement Remodel: The Bathroom

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Well, I haven’t updated with any pictures since framing just looks like framing. A lot of electrical work has been done too (by Bill and his brother), but you really can’t see that either. However, we started working on adding a bathroom today. Here’s what it looks like when you add a bath when you didn’t have one before:

Yes, you have to dig up the foundation and add a pit (and beyond that they lost me.) Let me tell you, it is super stinky when they do this too! At times today, I was already to pack up the Briggs and Riley luggage, and high tail it out of here. However, opening the windows helped somewhat. I keep trying to remind myself — this is all for a good cause. LOL

I also most forgot to tell you. We had to shut the gas off on Friday to move some piping. Well, when we went to relight the water heater, it wouldn’t! After messing with it for about an hour, we ended up at Home Depot and got a new one. That means, the only appliance we haven’t replaces since we moved in here is the refrigerator! Keep your fingers crossed on that one please. In a way, it is good that it died now. It was 21 years old, so it definitely was on its way out.
