Kids Update!

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

We have had a busy weekend, so I have not had a chance to update you all about the kids doctors’ appointment on Friday.  I had my mother-in-law come with because both kids had an appointment, and they both needed shots.  I am not dumb; I brought reinforcements.  :)

Let’s start with Madison.  She is 44 1/2 lbs and 42 3/4 inches tall.  Again, she is off the charts for her height.  Obvioiusly, she does not get that from me.  (I’m only 5′ 2″).  I brought Madison in for a dual reason.  She needed the second part of her Hepatis A vaccine, and her preschool teachers wanted me to talk to her doctor.  We are not sure if its a hearing issue, an ADHD issue, an ADD issue, or she’s just a four year old.  I haven’t posted about this since I wasn’t sure how I felt about the whole thing.  They tell me that you can’t get her to pay attention unless you have her full attention (I swear she learned the selective hearing thing her father has).  However, she’s always done with her worksheets first, and they told me she’s really smart.  The doctor said it is way too early to even be thinking ADD or ADHD, and from what I have told her, there is nothing she sees at this point that it is an issue.  She did tell me to call the school and have them test her hearing.  There is no harm in doing that.  Basically, Madison got a clean bill of health.  She did end up with 4 shots instead of one though!  She got the Hepatitis A and flu shot.  They also gave her 2 shots that she normally would have gotten at her 5 year old check up.  Basically, it was get 4 shots when I had someone there to help or wait till she turns five and have a huge problem.  Once the shots were over, she was fine.

Will had his 15 month checkup (whoops — he’s almost 16 months).  He is 26 lbs 2 oz and 32 1/2 inches long.  His weight is in the 75th percentile, and his height is in the 90th percentile.  Madison was always off the charts with her height, so these stats don’t surprise me at all.  Will ended up with 2 shots and a lead test.  He is right on schedule for all his milestones, so the doctor is happy with his progress too.

All in all, it was a pretty good day.

March of Dimes March For Babies

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

My sister over at Karebear Central is walking in Walk America this weekend up in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Since we are in the middle of a remodeling project, the kids and I aren’t going up there. However, I would love to surprise her and help her raise money for such a great cause!

I truly believe that without the research the March Of Dimes has done, my kids would not be here. I had preterm labor issues with both of my children. If they (the doctors) wouldn’t have been able to stop it, my kids would have been born too early and probably would not have survived. My cousins two children were born extremely premature. Her daughter was only 3 lbs when born.

If you ask around your friends and family, you will be amazed at how many people you know that have benefited from the March of Dimes and their research. With that in mind, please consider donating to March of Dimes March For Babies. All those who donate will be included get a link from both me on this blog and a link from my sister on her blog. For anyone who donates $20 or more, I will also write a review about your blog (or whatever you want) over on my Lisa Reviews blog. Leave me a comment if you donate. Thanks!!!!

Madison Update: Influenza

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

I first need to thank Marisa and Kat for keeping me calm last night (I’ll link you guys after I get some sleep tonight).  They kept me calm when Madison’s fever spiked up to 105.7 last night.  We got it back down.
However, her fever spiked back up around 2 this afternoon to 102.3 which at that point I called the doctor.  I then gave her some Motrin again.  They got her in at 3:15, and we didn’t get back into the room until 4.  When they took her temp there, she was at 104.9.  They gave her some Tylenol, did a strep test, and a urinalysis.  They think she has influenza.  They think she’ll be over it by Thursday (we are suppose to leave for AZ Friday morning, so at this point, we have no idea if we are going yet).  However, I guess influenza is highly contagious, so they are worried that Will is going to get it.  Since he is only 8 months old, that would be very very bad.  We now have to give her Motrin and Tylenol alternating every four hours.

If I don’t get to post anything tomorrow, we are back at the doctors office.

Kids and their bodily fluids

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

I thought that title would get your attention. Also, it serves as a great warning say if your are eating breakfast and don’t want to hear about things like bodily fluids over your breakfast. Ok, on with the story . . .

My bodily fluid day started at the doctors office. While being weighed, Will proceeded to pee all over the scale and me and the nurse and himself. It was great, let me tell you. Then after we got home, Will proceeded to pee on me twice while I was trying to change him. I thought this was the end of my fun. I was wrong. About 11 pm last night, I fed Will in my bed. I was being lazy and did want to take him back into the living room which has not been a problem. Last night, however, he ate his bottle and then proceeded to throw up all over me and my bed. Not a little, mind you. I had to change my clothes, and we had to rip all the bedding off the bed. My entire side of the bed was covered in puke.

I thought we were done with this stuff by today. Madison climbed into bed with me this morning. I was feeding Will about 8 and I noticed a wet spot on the bed on Bill’s side (and I was pretty sure Bill didn’t wet the bed). This is where Madison lays when she climbs into bed with me. Her diaper leaked!!!!

So today has now turned into “let’s wash all the bedding” day. I tell you, its great being a housewife. Somebody please help me . . . :)

Insurance

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

I would appreciate any help anyone can give me on this.

I had a miscarriage in July late on a Friday night. I called my doctor’s office who then told me to go to the Emergency Room which I did. I have BCBS health insurance and should only have a $50 copay for the emergency room.

I received my first bill in August or Sept. and nothing was being covered. When I called BCBS, I was told they need the date of onset and that it wasn’t being coded as emergency. I called the hospital and told them that. I thought this was taken care of.

Fast forward to now. This is a $1406 bill. I just hung up with BCBS, and they have now decided not to cover it because a missed abortion (which I guess is a miscarriage) is not an emergency service. It is an outpatient service even though I was treated through the emergency room and went there per my doctors request. They also told me it was pointless to try and get them to review the denial.

Here’s where you guys come in. I am sitting here crying and I don’t know what to do next. Anybody know how to fight this? BCBS won’t give me the CPT code that they need to cover this. I just don’t understand how they can deny the claim when I was told to go to the energency room by my doctor and then it is not an emergency. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
