That Baby CD and DVD

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

That Baby DVD and That Baby CD is a collection that is a huge hit in my house. We had been listening to the same classical music for 4 years. We started that with Madison and just continued to use the same one for Will. However, we recently got ahold of That Baby CD and I love it. the songs are covers of songs by Bruce Springsteen, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Marley, Natalie Merchant, and The Pretenders to just name a few, so as an adult, you will recognize them. However, they don’t change them for the kids so that you don’t recognize them. They don’t “over-kid” them. The CD along gets five stars from me. However, the DVD is just as good. I don’t mind watching it (it isn’t mind numbing as a lot of children’s DVDs can be). My kids love watching it. It even holds Will’s attention (somewhat — he’s only going to be one, so there isn’t much of an attention span there). The DVD is simple but very good.

If you are looking for a great gift to give, That Baby DVD and That Baby CD should top your list. I know I would have loved to receive this and I know a couple of moms would also would love this.

Father’s Day

Monday, May 5th, 2008

I know, I know — Mother’s Day is just around the corner. However, I like to think ahead and figure out what I am to do for Bill for Father’s Day. Since we are remodeling the basement, I would love to get something for him for down there. We are adding a bathroom, a living room area, and a toy room. My upstairs is only 980 sq feet, so we definitely can use the extra space. Right now, I am waiting for the waterproofing people to get here. They are the first part of the transition. They will be here today and tomorrow, and then the contractor who is adding everything else starts. All this construction will last about a month. Fun times, I know.

That being said, Bill’s brother started pulling the wire this weekend for things like the satellite, phone, etc. I am wondering if I should have him pull some wire for a Home Theater System. I think he (Bill) would be completely floored if I made something like that his Father’s Day gift. We currently have a system in our upstairs. However, the DVD player no longer plays half of the DVDs we put into it (including brand new ones!), so we are in definitely need of something like this. I think he would definitely be surprised and truly enjoy a gift like that. What you are getting the “father” in your life for Father’s Day?

I won! I won!

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

I will say it again. I am not lucky (which I know you guys are starting to not believe me when I say this). I just found out last night that I won Elizabeth’s (Table4Five) DVD giveaway for Baby Einstein Baby’s First Sounds DVDs.  I am super excited.  We own a ton of Baby Einstein DVDs, and they are all awesome.  Madison still likes to watch them once in a while.  My mail sucks, so it’ll probably take a while to get here.  I’ll be unpatiently waiting for it.

Vat19

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

I have often posted on here about the different products that Vat19 has that I just absolutely love. They have everything you could ever need like giant remote controls, instasnow, and remote control forklifts. Watch this video if you want to know what I am talking about:

You can tell that these guys have a warped sense of humor (like me!). You can learn how to operate the forklift and learn how helpful it would be in your home or office. Make sure you watch the video till the end where they blow up food! If you need a unique gift for someone, make sure you check Vat19 out!

Hurt – 3 songs – 3 meanings

Monday, March 24th, 2008

One of my favorite songs of all time is Hurt by Nine Inch Nails. I fell in love with the song when I was in high school and was in my teenage angst. It still speaks to me — just not in the same way. What amazing me about this song is that it has been covered. When you watch these videos, you can see the different takes people took on what is the same song and how each shows a different meaning.

The first is the original. This makes me think of depression and angst. It definitely works with the “emo” thing that the kids have going on now. I can’t find the original video. However, this is live from one the dvds that have been released. It still amazing me that even now he sings this with such angst.

Next is Johnny Cash’s version. There have been several covers of Hurt. Johnny’s is the only one that gives the songs a whole new meaning. Even though it is the same words, they take on such a different meaning when he sings them. This version is about an old man reaching the end of his life and having regrets.

The last version is by Kermit the Frog. This one I have to warn you not to watch when children are around. I have to admit that I laugh every time I see it, but man, it is a completely different take on the song. Umm, I’ll you see what this about for yourself.

Three versions. Three meanings. Thoughts, anyone?
