Fixing it up

This is the time of year that we make a list of all the things we would like to do to our house and to our yard. I know that we can’t be the only ones who do this.

For example, when I was painting the fence for Madison’s First Communion (that was May 5th), I realized how bad our fence is. When we first moved here, we put a fence in that March (2006). We bought the cheapest thing we could find at Menards and installed that. I can’t complain too much since the fence has lasted this log. However, while painting, I realized that we have definite sections that are rotting. Badly. To be honest, I will be surprised if the fence lasts the rest of this summer. That being said, we have started looking at our fencing options. We’ve seen some fencing that you put a pipe into the ground instead of having to dig holes for the posts. That sounds heaven sent!

We had Bill’s cousin check out our air conditioner too. Last summer, it did not work at all. However, this summer, so far, it seems to be working. He checked all of our PVC Duct work. I’m hoping if anything needs to be fixed, its something as easy as Lasco fittings or any other CIS pieces. However, it is like 90 degrees out right now, and I am cool. That’s all I ask for. However, the air didn’t go out until July last summer, so keep your fingers crossed that we don’t have a repeat performance!

At some point, we will be cleaning out our junk room in the basement too. I’m hoping to reorganize that so you can get in there and the attic needs some major reorganization.

What home improvements are you thinking about doing this summer?

My Bucket List

I know we’ve all seen the movie (okay for those who haven’t, its about 2 men who are dying who make a list about the things they want to do before they –wait for it– kick the bucket. Hence, the bucket list.). You’ll find thing on a bucket list like skydiving, riding in a race car, etc.

I bring this up, because Bill and I created a bucket list for our yard.  It’s everything we want to do.  I have trees I’d like to cut down.  My front porch needs to be replaced (anybody got about $10,000?  That’s all I need to tear down the ugly tiny porch we do have, and we’d love to create a wrap around porch around the front of the house).  Bill wants to put in a driveway (since we don’t have one, because we have an alley that runs on the side of our house.  (Our garage kicks out into the alley).  I’d like a new garage.  We are currently creating a flower bed along the side of our neighbors fence, since when they replace the fence, we can’t get grass to grow over there anymore!  I’d love for somebody else to do this for me.  :)  It’s a ton of work, but if it looks as good as it does in my head, it’ll be worth it in the end.

I know my yard bucket list isn’t as exciting as skydiving. However, it’s all stuff we hope to do someday. Do you have bucket list for your yard?

Painting

We are finally done. I am not sure if posted what we did this weekend, but we painted the garage, the fence, and the front porch.  We went through 7 gallons of paint, and we are not completely done.  The fence needs a second coat of paint.  However, it looks good enough for Will’s baptism this weekend.   We spent so much time outside that Bill and I are both sunburned!  Everything looks so much better now that it is painted.

I just realized that Bill and I are the American family (this coming from the girl who never wanted to normal — I like weird).  We have 2 kids (boy and girl) and a white picket fence.  LOL.
