Kids Update!
We have had a busy weekend, so I have not had a chance to update you all about the kids doctors’ appointment on Friday. I had my mother-in-law come with because both kids had an appointment, and they both needed shots. I am not dumb; I brought reinforcements.
Let’s start with Madison. She is 44 1/2 lbs and 42 3/4 inches tall. Again, she is off the charts for her height. Obvioiusly, she does not get that from me. (I’m only 5′ 2″). I brought Madison in for a dual reason. She needed the second part of her Hepatis A vaccine, and her preschool teachers wanted me to talk to her doctor. We are not sure if its a hearing issue, an ADHD issue, an ADD issue, or she’s just a four year old. I haven’t posted about this since I wasn’t sure how I felt about the whole thing. They tell me that you can’t get her to pay attention unless you have her full attention (I swear she learned the selective hearing thing her father has). However, she’s always done with her worksheets first, and they told me she’s really smart. The doctor said it is way too early to even be thinking ADD or ADHD, and from what I have told her, there is nothing she sees at this point that it is an issue. She did tell me to call the school and have them test her hearing. There is no harm in doing that. Basically, Madison got a clean bill of health. She did end up with 4 shots instead of one though! She got the Hepatitis A and flu shot. They also gave her 2 shots that she normally would have gotten at her 5 year old check up. Basically, it was get 4 shots when I had someone there to help or wait till she turns five and have a huge problem. Once the shots were over, she was fine.
Will had his 15 month checkup (whoops — he’s almost 16 months). He is 26 lbs 2 oz and 32 1/2 inches long. His weight is in the 75th percentile, and his height is in the 90th percentile. Madison was always off the charts with her height, so these stats don’t surprise me at all. Will ended up with 2 shots and a lead test. He is right on schedule for all his milestones, so the doctor is happy with his progress too.
All in all, it was a pretty good day.

Crazy Weather
I cannot believe the weather here in Chicago. It is crazy — one day we have snow and then next is 50 degrees. This weekend is no different. When we flew back on Friday night, it was something like twenty degrees here. It snowed several days while we were gone last week. Today, I think it got up to 57 degrees. Right now at 10:30 pm, it is 55 degrees. Here’s where the crazy part comes in — tomorrow we are suppose to get snow again. It is suppose to snow on and off all week. You wonder why everybody is getting sick? Well, these crazy temperature fluctuations are not helping matters. I was hoping it was going to stay warm since we were talking about bumping will up to a bigger carseat which means I won’t be able to carry him in the carseat anymore. That would be much easier if it was warm out!
Madison Update: Influenza
I first need to thank Marisa and Kat for keeping me calm last night (I’ll link you guys after I get some sleep tonight). They kept me calm when Madison’s fever spiked up to 105.7 last night. We got it back down.
However, her fever spiked back up around 2 this afternoon to 102.3 which at that point I called the doctor. I then gave her some Motrin again. They got her in at 3:15, and we didn’t get back into the room until 4. When they took her temp there, she was at 104.9. They gave her some Tylenol, did a strep test, and a urinalysis. They think she has influenza. They think she’ll be over it by Thursday (we are suppose to leave for AZ Friday morning, so at this point, we have no idea if we are going yet). However, I guess influenza is highly contagious, so they are worried that Will is going to get it. Since he is only 8 months old, that would be very very bad. We now have to give her Motrin and Tylenol alternating every four hours.
If I don’t get to post anything tomorrow, we are back at the doctors office.
