I can’t believe it is time to get back to school. The summer just flew by. Will started school on Monday, and Madison starts tomorrow.  We just made a few tweaks the last week or so to get the kids ready for school.  The first thing I did was take the kids in for doctors appointments and eye doctor appointments.  It is very good that I did that because that’s how we found out Will needed glasses!  We also picked up new clothes for school (or for Madison – uniforms).  We made sure everybody’s shoes fit — Madison went from a 13 to a 2.5 in gym shoes!!!!  Her dress shoes I had to buy with about 1 month left of school, so thankfully they still fit.  We’ve also moved their bedtimes earlier and have gotten them up earlier in the morning.  Another thing is school supplies.  I luck out that I can order them right from Madison’s school in May, and we picked them up 2 weeks ago at Book Bill Day.  However, for those other things you need (like emergency contact cards, allergy cards, play date cards, academic planners, etc), you can check out Tiny Prints.  They have such great quality items, and I’ve loved everything I’ve ever ordered from there.

Well, actually Madison can. She had an eye doctor appointment last night.  I changed her from the pediatric ophthalmologist to the eye doctor Bill and I go to.  It’s just down the street, and it’s covered under our vision insurance (whereas her ophthalmologist was not).  The amazing thing is that we’ve been going to the other place for 2 years, and I learned more about what’s up with Madison’s eyes last night!

Now, we ended up at the ophthalmologist when Madison was 3, because she had a lazy eye.  The glasses were to correct it.  What I was never told was that she has a refractive error in her eyes, so she’ll always wear glasses.  She’ll always have to wear glasses.  Unlike adults, they also don’t give them the full prescription right away either.  They slowly work their way up.  This explains why every single year her prescription has changed.  Also, until they get her to her full prescription her depth perception sucks.  For us, this explains a lot.  We couldn’t figure out why she can’t catch.  Well, that explains a lot.  If you don’t have depth perception that would make it quite difficult.

Now, we wait for her new lenses.  These still aren’t her full prescription, but her new doctor has already told us that she’s putting Madison on an accelerated schedule to get her up to where she needs to be.

Bill came home from work last night and told me that my eye was really, really red.  I checked in the mirror and darn it, he was right.  Now, up till this point, my eye wasn’t bothering me at all.  I popped out my contacts, and within five minutes, my eye started hurting.  I am so glad I have a spare set of glasses.  I was hoping that it would be gone by this morning.  Unfortunately, it is not and hurts even worse!  Thank goodness it is only about a block to get to the eye doctor from my house (we can literally walk there). Otherwise, I might have to look into upping my car insurance.  The only bad thing is that they can’t get me in till 7 pm CST tonight!  I’ll just have to suck it up till then.  I am hoping it is not pink eye, but I have no idea what else it could be.  At this point, I’d love to just rip my eyeball out.  Any takers?

Madison made the cutest birthday card for her Grandpa. His birthday was on Tuesday (yes, he’s an April Fool – lol). Madison and I worked on this card all afternoon for him. It was so cute I had to take a picture and show you all.
This is the front of the card. That is a picture of Madison’s Grandpa. As you can tell (or not), she made him with glasses.

With a little help from mommy (since Madison can’t spell yet), she was able to sign everybody’s name.

For some reason, she felt the need to draw a birthday cake (with a candle too!) on the back. She also wanted to write Birthday cake. I’m not sure if she thought nobody would know what it was or what.

Now, isn’t this the cutest card ever!
