My Day

Ever have one of those days?  I did today. Instead of my normal Tuesday routine, I got stuck doing other things I didn’t really feel like doing.  If you read my last update from when we went to the doctor’s office, Madison needs to get a hearing test done. I finally got around to calling the school district today, and what a mess.  Instead of being able just to schedule her for hearing test, they are making her go through an entire preschool screening again. Unfortunately, this means I had to prove residency once again. This is no easy task. To prove residency in my district, you have to bring in your tax bill, two utility bills, an original birth certificate, and your drivers license. Unfortunately, that isn’t always so easy to find. I spent the entire time while Madison was a preschool looking for these items.  My other problem was that the school closed at 4 PM.This normally wouldn’t be an issue except Madison had preschool until 3:30 PM. It takes me around 15 minutes to get from my house to her preschool. In theory, I should have made a back In plenty of time. However, I got stuck by two trains. I then turned on the wrong street to go to the school and got a bit turned around. What a mess!  Luckily, I got there with five minutes to spare. I literally ran into the building with the kids. Thank goodness the woman was nice, because it actually took me till five after four for me to finish all the paperwork. Seriously, there was so much paperwork it was like signing mortgage papers.  Now, I have to sit and wait for school to call me back and schedule a screening for preschool. I seriously don’t understand why they just can’t do the hearing screening like I asked. I think the lady said that testing would start November 7, so at least we don’t have to wait that long. It’s just frustrating because Madison won’t qualify for free preschool, so this is just a waste of my time.

Eyeball anyone?

Bill came home from work last night and told me that my eye was really, really red.  I checked in the mirror and darn it, he was right.  Now, up till this point, my eye wasn’t bothering me at all.  I popped out my contacts, and within five minutes, my eye started hurting.  I am so glad I have a spare set of glasses.  I was hoping that it would be gone by this morning.  Unfortunately, it is not and hurts even worse!  Thank goodness it is only about a block to get to the eye doctor from my house (we can literally walk there). Otherwise, I might have to look into upping my car insurance.  The only bad thing is that they can’t get me in till 7 pm CST tonight!  I’ll just have to suck it up till then.  I am hoping it is not pink eye, but I have no idea what else it could be.  At this point, I’d love to just rip my eyeball out.  Any takers? :)

Just what we need right before Christmas . . .

It is about 3 am here. Why am I blogging? Well, I was sleeping until I half sleeping watched the power surge twice and then heard a loud boom. What was that? My back door (which was closed good and tight – Bill was the last one in the house today) was blown off.

This second picture is the door brought into the house. It took Bill and me to even open the back door. That’s how much pressure there was outside. I just checked the weather and I guess we are under a wind advisory. We can expect gusts between 45 mph – 57 mph.

Here are few branches that I found outside too. I’m not sure if you can tell, but they are pretty big:

Also, since it has been so warm today, I have standing water all over my yard too:

Those leaves were all picked up. All of the garbage cans were blown over and the contents are now all over my yard. Most of the stuff in the yard has already been put away for winter thank goodness. Bill doesn’t have any sort of tool storage out there we have to worry about either. The patio set is already in the garage. Otherwise that would have been thrown all over the place.

I haven’t decided if we need to call the insurance.  I have no idea how much that back door is going to cost to replace.  However, we now have a gap between the back door that still remains and the floor, so we have to do something and do that something semi quick.
