I spent yesterday morning with a shy crabby kid and three therapists in my living room. It was a tad nerve wracking on my part, since at first, all Will would do was throw their toys back at them. It took about twenty minutes and at least he started to do what they wanted. We got good and bad news.

Now, to qualify for Early Intervention, Will had to be 30% behind. On both occupational and development skills I think he scored out at 21 months (he’s 25 months). That isn’t enough to qualify for services. However, like we all thought, he scored at 17 months for his speech which means he’s 32% behind. He qualified!

Now, we have the fun part. Since early intervention is a state funded service, I had to literally sign my life away. Okay, maybe not my whole life but damn it was a lot of papers. First, they have to send something to my health insurance which they will most likely deny. This will take 2 weeks. Then they have to verify Bill’s income to come up with what we will owe monthly (yeah, I wish it was free but it’s not). Then they can finally set up a therapist. I am thinking Madison might be in school before this all gets set up. We’ll have to see.

Needless to say, I am happy. I am hoping this will help him talk better and more and end a lot of the frustration in our house.

I actually am feeling better, and I thank you all for your support, comments, emails, and everything else. Now that most of the pain is gone, I’m left just left with my frustration with the whole situation. Basically, I don’t have a ton of options.

Option #1 — Just keep flipping birth controls when it quits stopping my periods. I’ve been through either 6 or 8 of them in two years already.

Option #2 — Get an ablation done. That basically burns out the lining of your uterus. It doesn’t work well on young women (per my OBGYN). I would still have to use birth control or buy condoms, because I cannot take the chance of getting pregnant. The cost I think is in the $20,000 range. I would lose my fertility.

Option #3 — After reading about ablation, I started doing research on a partial hysterectomy. My OBGYN did not suggest it but it would solve most of my problems (I think). I wouldn’t have to worry about having to buy condoms online or getting pregnant. But I’d be 32 and without a uterus. I am pretty sure we are done having kids. Plus, I don’t know if my OBGYN will even do it.

Option #4 — This last option was suggest to me from my chiropractor and that is to see a natural doctor. She gave me a name and her brochure. I am really wondering if I should look into this since one of the treatments she does is for natural female hormone balancing. I am pretty sure my insurance won’t cover it, so this would be all out of pocket. However, if it works, I would be one happy camper.

If any of you have done any of my option, I’d love to hear from you. I’m obviously frustrated, and I don’t feel like there is a right answer.

Many of you know my kids have not had a good year with their health. I also have surgery next week, so I’m not helping our healthcare woes either. Now, let me start by stating that I have fairly decent health insurance. It covers most of what we need covered, $1000 deductible, $3,000 out of pocket family deductible. Now, with everybody’s issues this year, we may actually make the family deductible. My kids (before insurance) alone have wracked up over $20,000 in medical bills this year. We definitely are getting our money’s worth (finally!).

So why am I worried? Bill’s insurance is dependent on his job. This is the worst construction (which is the field he works in) has ever been (according to an article he sent me a while pack) here in Chicago. We keep our fingers crossed at all times here. My biggest concern would be Madison. Seeeeee, with her history, she’s pretty much uninsurable if we would have to pick up our own health insurance. Her ketosis acidosis would be considered a preexisting condition that most insurances will most likely not cover or if I could actually find one, the deductible would be so high it may be pointless or we won’t be able to afford it. (And yes, I’ve actually looked into this). Depending on what we find on my surgery next Wednesday, I may or may not fall into the same case too.

Though, is government run medicine the answer? I don’t know. My fear is that if the government starts offering up insurance that small companies, like the one my husband works at, will have no incentive to offer insurance. I’ve heard about the long lines and substandard care in countries with socialized medicine. I don’t want that either. I can’t offer up anything better than what we have which is clearly broken.

What are your thoughts? What is the right answer?

I’ve been on a blogging hiatus since we were gone to Wisconsin. I really didn’t blog about it too much since I didn’t think it was wise to let the internet know that we weren’t home. However, we are back now and I am hoping to get back to blogging a little more frequently than I have been. My parents only have dial up, and that is just not worth my time to even try and do. I don’t know how my dad looks for cheap auto insurance or even checks his email. It is so slow that I can’t stand it at all. We are trying to talk him into getting DSL, so hopefully, I’ll be successful with that. I am hoping to get some of our pictures downloaded later tonight, so I can show you what fun my kids had. I am hoping that everyone had a great Christmas and got everything they wanted.

If you aren’t lucky enough to have vision insurance or have vision insurance that will only pay up to a certain amount for your contact lenses, you should definitely check out LensShopper. Now, my vision insurance will pay up to $250 a year for contact lenses. That sounds like a lot, but if you wear contacts, you know it isn’t. That only pays for a couple of months of contacts, and then I pay out of pocket for the rest. My last order of contacts I stilled owed money on after they took the insurance off. That is where LensShopper comes into play. Their lenses are a ton cheaper than what I normally pay for my contacts! They even have even better deals if you order in bulk! I love that it tells me how long the delivery time is and whether or not the contacts are even in stock. Nothing is more annoying than ordering contacts, and then after you place your order, you find out their are backordered. I love that they even make it easy to find the best deals on their site by listing the best deals for each kind of contacts. If you just want to search out your contacts, you can choose to search by manufacturer, lens type, and even popular lenses.

Now, I personsally use the Focus Night & Day contacts. I found on their site that I can get a box for $40.95 (if I order bulk) and get free shipping! I love free shipping! That is a darn good deal for my contacts! I would save almost $40 off my normal order of 6 boxes! I can’t complain about savings like that! If you need contacts, you need to definitely check out LensShopper for all your contact needs!
