My public school drives my absolutely bananas.  I wanted to get Madison’s hearing screened just to make sure that there were no problems.  We thought maybe some of Madison’s attention issues were due to her not hearing.  However, my school being the pain in butt that they are wouldn’t do it unless we scheduled her to be prescreened for preschool through the school (which is a joke but I’ll tell you about that later).  Obviously, there is some sort of federal funding they get for this, because I wanted a five minute screening and got stuck with an hour long screening.  I sucked it up and took her.

I swear that they expect these kids to have a flash memory drive in their heads. I could hear some of the things they were testing her on, and from what I could tell, she was doing well.  When they called me up after the testing was over, I was right.  Except for cutting and catching, she scored everything else in the 6 year old range.  Madison is only 4.  I am seriously wondering if some of the attention issues we are having with her at preschool are due to her being bored. That was the good news.

The bad new was that we failed her hearing screening.  I asked what the school would do for that.  The answer:  nothing.  We would have to pay for additional testing elsewhere.  The other thing that ticked me off to no end was that she couldn’t even get into the school preschool if I wanted to send her.  The only kids who get in are those who are considered “at risk” (which Madison is obviously not) and if we made less than $80,000 a year.  Umm, yeah.  We make more than that.  In Chicago, I am not sure if you can even own a decent house making less than $80,000 a year.  Basically, the only kids who get in are those who don’t speak English (because there were several kids like that there) and low income people.  I guess my question is what about the middle class?  Why do we always get screwed?

You all know how I feel about President Bush. If you do not, well let’s just say I did not vote for the man. Either time. That being said, I found a site called White House Countdown. They poke fun at all in the political spectrum. This isn’t a site against just Republicans or just Democrats. It picks on them both (quite well, might I add). I personally like the Candidate Maker. If you don’t like your choices right now for President, make your own! They also have videos that people have made. Make sure you have some free time before you delve into there. You can lose hours while you watch these and laugh. There are several games you can play like PAC Attack (Political Action Committee), Paintball Politics, and Fat Cat Ball. These games are so easy to do that my 3 year old was having a blast with me this morning!  You can also find trivia games, caption contests, and opinion forums.  There is a little something for everyone.

This is the first gaming site dedicated to the 2008 elections and they have done a fine job at it too. If you can’t take a joke, don’t bother checking this out. If you can, have fun! Sign up is free, so what are you waiting for?

I wrote earlier this week about how Todd Stroger‘s biggest challenge has been the media. You know, none of the important stuff liking laying people off bothered him. I just found out that Mr. Stroger has hired yet another one of his friends for a high paying position!

Richard Velazquez is being paid to give legal advice to Todd Stroger. However, his paycheck is coming from the Public Defender’s Office. You know, the same office that just had to lay off 13 lawyers and 65 – 70 people are being forced to take unpaid days off because of the budget cuts. How much is this guy making? $108,000 a year.

What a freaking joke!

More than 1,000 Cook County employees will be losing their jobs. Most of them are in the law enforcement and in health. 13 health clinics will be closed. Instead of cutting management, they cut the front line people. This is such a joke.

The budget was voted on at 3:oo am this morning.

When people voted Todd Stroger in, I do not know what they were expecting. I think he just about screwed every union here. It is just frustrating that he can do whatever he wants. He puts HIS family in high paying made up positions and screws the little people out of their jobs.
