Spc. Monica Lin Brown
19 years old from Lake Jackson, Texas
4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team
Army Spc. Monica Lin Brown has done something only a very few female soldiers in American history have ever done. She’s been awarded the Silver Star.
Brown saved the lives of fellow soldiers after a roadside bomb tore through a convoy of Humvees in the eastern Paktia province of Afghanistan in April 2007. “I did not really think about anything except for getting the guys to a safer location and getting them taken care of and getting them out of there.”
“We stopped the convoy. I opened up my door and grabbed my aid bag,” Brown said.
She started running toward the burning vehicle as insurgents opened fire. All five wounded soldiers had scrambled out.
“I assessed the patients to see how bad they were. We tried to move them to a safer location because we were still receiving incoming fire,” Brown said. “So we dragged them for 100 or 200 meters, got them away from the Humvee a little bit,” she said. “I was in a kind of a robot-mode, did not think about much but getting the guys taken care of.”
For Brown, who knew all five wounded soldiers, it became a race to get them all to a safer location. Eventually, they moved the wounded some 500 yards away and treated them on site before putting them on a helicopter for evacuation.
“I did not really have time to be scared,” Brown said. “Running back to the vehicle, I was nervous (since) I did not know how badly the guys were injured. That was scary.”
The military said Brown’s “bravery, unselfish actions and medical aid rendered under fire saved the lives of her comrades and represents the finest traditions of heroism in combat.”
These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

Yes, we allow Madison access to the internet. Does it scare me? Definitely. I will never forget when two of my aunts went searching for apple pie recipes. Let’s just say the first link they went to was not for the apple pie recipe they were looking for! They laugh about it now, but at the time, they were quite shocked. I can only imagine how my kids would react. If my aunts can accidentally get to those type of sites, I can only imagine what a four year old can do. That is why I am extremely happy that there are programs out there like Integard which have the features I need to protect my children. This program blocks pornography, blocks inappropriate words and phrases in chat sessions and email, alerts me of any suspicious conversations or activities, blocks the sending of personal information, remote monitoring, sets search engine into their safe search mode, and time limits. This is just a few of the things it can do. There is quit a long list of all things it does to protect your family. If you aren’t sure if this a good fit for your family, they do have a 14 day free trial. What do you have to lose besides your worrying about what your kids are getting into?

I actually got this in an email, but it made me laugh so I have to pass it on.
“True Friendship” (With none of that Sissy Crap!!!!)
Are you tired of those sissy “friendship” poems that always sound good, but never actually come close to reality? Well, here is a series of promises that actually speak of true friendship. You will see no cutesy little smiley faces on this card-just the stone cold truth of our friendship.
When you are sad — I will help you get drunk and plot revenge against the sorry bastard who made you that way.
When you are blue — I will try to dislodge whatever is choking you.
When you smile — I will know you finally got laid.
When you are scared– I will rag on you about it every chance I get.
When you are worried — I will tell you horrible stories about how much worse it could be until you quit whining.
When you are confused — I will use little words.
When you are sick — Stay the hell away from me until you are well again. I don’t want to catch whatever you have.
When you fall — I will point and laugh at your clumsy ass.
This is my oath….. I pledge it to the end. “Why?” you may ask,”Because you are my friend”. We don’t need a succession plan, because friendship is like peeing your pants: everyone can see it, but only you can feel the true warmth.

Since the Google Smackdown of ‘07 happened, page rank definitely does not mean what it once did. Webmasters are now running afraid since sites that did not even have paid links on them got smacked down to a zero. They are starting to no follow all their links since they are running scared. However, by doing this, they are really messing up google’s ability to have a quality search engine. Anyway, what does google page rank tell you? Not much. Supposibly it is the authority your site has. The higher page rank the better the site is suppose to be. Well, I cannot be the only one who has seen terrible sites that have been ranked high. Heck, I have seen splogs (blogs that steal others content through their RSS feeds) that I have high page rank. Please, tell me how that ranking is telling me anything.
IZEARanks.com is attempting to solve that problem for you. Right now, the only way to monitor traffic is through companies like Compete and Alexa. The problem with compete is that it only follows unique monthly hits and alexa only works if the person viewing your site has the alexa tool bar. Izea Ranks is a measure of your traffic against all the other people who have the tracking code on their blogs. It is a much better way to track your traffic. You don’t have to expect your readers to do the work. They can do what they always do, just come and read your blog. If you are afraid of google, have no fear. IzeaRank uses a different code than Pay Per Post. You are able to see your rank, your uniques hits, and your pageviews. They are even giving away $1000 each week in February to the blog with the #1 RealRank. I know that won’t be me — however, if any of you win it I’d like a finders fee! LOL

This Weeks Soldier Was Suggested By Cindy
Lance Cpl. Steven Chavez
20 years old from Hondo, New Mexico
2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force
March 14, 2007
Tears ran down cheeks and strong men choked back emotion as the city of Hondo, NM payed tribute to fallen Marine, Steven Chavez. LCpl. Chavez lost his life on March 14, 2007 in a non-combat incident in which he was accidentally shot.
Chavez enlisted in the Marine Cops. right after he graduated in 2005. “You pray and you pray that the day never comes, and then it does,” said Novelda Chavez, Chavez’s mother. “Your emotions are mixed — it’s not true, it’s a bad dream, a bad dream you never wake up from.”
In a letter Chavez wrote before he was sent to Iraq, he wrote:
“First of all I would like to thank everyone for your support. When I’m home on leave and when I’m away. That is so important to me. Thank you for your kind, supporting words in your letters and for the packages I’ve received. Those are awesome.
I’ve been through some pretty hard times, in the short time I’ve been in the Marine Corp. None harder then what I’m about to face. Yes I’m scared; nothing is scarier than the uncertainty of what your future holds for you. I’m prepared to face whatever lies ahead.
I put my life in the hands of the Lord. And pray that He guides my fellow soldiers and I down a safe path, that He will calm our fears, and give us the strength to do the job we have been trained to do, and to do that job well.
There are many lonely nights, when you’re lying in your bunk thinking of family and friends, wondering what they are doing at that very moment. Wondering what mom is cooking for supper. I can almost taste the tortillas on the griddle.
I want to say to all of you tonight, I wouldn’t change one thing about my life.
I’ve never been more proud of the choices I made in my life than the day I graduated from basic drill instructor placed that Anchor, Globe and Eagle Pin in my hand I knew then I was a UNITED STATES MARINE!
I’m Proud to protect and serve My Country
I’m Proud to protect and serve My Community
I’m Proud to protect and serve you
Thank you so much for your Support. Keep those letters coming. Mail is a precious commodity when you’re so far from Home.
YOUR U.S. MARINE
LANCE CORPORAL STEVE CHAVEZ”
