This is a guest post.

Choosing the right sofa can seem like an easy decision but in truth it is a minefield of mini decisions and considerations like…

How will the sofa fit in with the rest of the room’s decor –

Seems obvious but when buying new sofas you should consider how the colours and design will fit in with the rest of the room. Obviously it is easier to change sofa colour then repaint your living room!

How long do you want to keep this sofa-

Your sofa budget should be dictated in part by how long you intend to keep the sofa if you have just moved into your first home then you might want to spring some cash for a lifelong sofa commitment. However if you are renting then you may want to opt for a portal cheap option.

Sofa or sofa bed-

This one is tricky and will depends on how many guests and visitors you are expecting. Sofa beds are notoriously uncomfortable so make sure you get a good sofa bed. Watch out for sofa beds that uncomfortable when living life as a sofa or as a bed. Ideally you want to find a sofa bed that is uber comfy in both incarnations. You want your guests to come back right so make sure they don’t leave your home with a bad back!

Leather or fabric-

Leather is more expensive but much more durable, be sure to get good quality leather as thin leather will age much faster. Fabrics sofas are easier to clean and can be a better option if you have kids!

What type of fabric and covers-

Sofa fabrics now come in a wealth of colours and textures so spend some time getting exactly what you want. The best sofa companies let you order fabric samples which are a good way to figure out which fabric your heart desires.

What is the sofa hiding-

People often use sofas to hide that hole in the laminate flooring, ugly radiator or hideous skirting board. Take the shape and size of your sofa into account when trekking around the sofa showroom. Measure up your sofa at home and check out the dimensions of the new sofa in the shop to make sure you don’t have any moving disasters!

What shape -

Sofas now come in a plentiful range of shapes and designs. However make sure you can fit the new sofa through your doors or it can be taken apart otherwise you’ll be stuck sitting on your new sofa in the street!

They say moving house, getting married and going on family holidays are the most stressful things you can do in life well buying a new sofa should rank highly up there with them too!

My Thoughts, Ideas, and Ramblings - A day in the life of a busy mom . . .

One of my Facebook “friends” (it’s actually somebody I went to high school with) posted this statement as her status:

In the face and grieving of tragedy we preach and praise God’s word, yet come election time we leave it aside. Please help me understand this?!

Now, if she was a blogger, this is clearly link bait to me. What surprised me was that she was oblivious to the argument that ensued in the comments after she typed this. She was surprised that people were offended. Now, I want to hear your thoughts, but I want to offer mine first.

I don’t talk about religion or politics on here too often. What you believe is what you believe. What I believe is what I believe. What I say isn’t going to change your mind. That’s is why I don’t talk about it. However, this is something I do think needs to be addressed.

The part the author seems to miss is that not everybody believes in God. Will goes to a public preschool — he has kids of every shape, color, and kind. Some celebrate Christmas. Some celebrate the Muslim holidays. And some don’t celebrate at all. Madison attends a small Catholic school. (Had to get my disclosures out of the way)

However, I do think that the conservative “right” has hijacked God for (and I’m quoting another friends comment here that was on this post) cheap political points, furthering an agenda of bigotry against homosexuals, and legislating a woman’s body.

I’ll be honest — I don’t vote for who my Church tells me to vote for. I look at the issues that are important to me. I vote on that — not whether or not somebody is Catholic or Christian. I don’t want people voting for somebody because their priest told them too. I don’t want religion in my government — I really don’t. Just think if you aren’t the majority religion and what life would be like. I also don’t need a MAN in Washington deciding what I can and can’t do with my body. Plus, I know plenty of atheists that are moral, loving, and kind. You don’t need religion to have those qualities. I love my country too much to want the founding father’s vision — that is keeping religion out of government — destroyed. They came here to get out of the reach of the Church.

Though I think I get some of what she was saying — that in tragedy everybody seems to “find God”. I didn’t watch the speech last night, but I’ve heard about it. If everybody on BOTH sides of the table, did what “God” wanted — we wouldn’t be fighting on social programs (like the healthcare bill since I think have a doctor care should be a right not just a privilege for those who can afford it). We would take care of the old, the sick, and the poor and NOT fight over who is paying for it.

Okay, off my soap box, and I think I’ve talked in circles. What are your thoughts? (And feel free to disagree with me).

Wish me luck!

My Thoughts, Ideas, and Ramblings - A day in the life of a busy mom . . .

I love Lands End. They have some of most stylish clothes at a good price. They even have plus size items that look good, so they score 2 thumbs up in my book. I also love that they have a virtual model on their site. All you have to do is put in your height and weight (there are othere things you can customize too like eye shape and hair color). You then can pick up clothing to put on your model, and know how that looks on you. You can exchange out colors, sizes, and pretty much anything else you want. I could literally spend hours just playing with that.

Now, if you are interested in shopping there for yourself or Christmas, use this coupon code:

Code: OUTERWEAR
Pin: 1013

This code will get you free basic UPS shipping on any order you have from October 13 – October 20. Now, I know that times are tough. Lands End knows this also and wants to give one of my readers either a Women’s Half-Zip Pullover or the Women’s Sherpa Fleece. I will let the winner pick which one she would like to receive! What do you need to do to enter this contest?

Each one of these things will give you one entry:

1. Leave a comment on this post. I want to know which one you want and what color it should be.
2. Twitter about this contest. Please leave me your username so I can verify.
3. Stumble this post. If you don’t know what Stumble Upon is, please read Lori’s post at Blogging Cents. She explains it extremely well.
Well, now being in Arizona, I have definitely learned different. We are on the second level of our building, so we have to walk down a flight of stairs and then walk up another flight to get to our car (it is hard to explain, but you would have to see it know what I am talking about). I will admit Bill and I are out of shape. However, we can walk up a flight of stairs (even 2) without getting winded. However, by the time we get to the top up by our car, we feel like we have had several corsets wrapped around us and tied as tight as possible. You cannot breathe. I have been so winded. The other thing we noticed (besides our ears popping all the time) is that our memory isn’t as good here and that sometime we seem to get altitude headaches. I now have an appreciation for when people talk about altitude sickness and how it effects you. It really does.

Oh yeah, I apologize to anyone who has commented and I haven’t gotten back to them. I’m on vacation.
