Be Fire Smart and Stay Safe

Now is the time of the year to talk with your kids about fire safety.  With many of us stuck in our homes (see the post before this about being snowed in) and having real Christmas trees, this is a talk we all need to have.  Even if you don’t have a real tree, your kids definitely need to know what to do if a fire would happen to break out.  I know that everyone thinks it won’t happen to them.  However, I am sure that the people who have house fires think that also.

Liberty Mutual has a great website dedicated to being fire smart.  This is a great way to start a conversation with your kids.  There are some great forms on this site that help you develop your fire plan and to just help you start the conversation.  Even though my kids are still pretty little, this is a conversation we started having with Madison last year already.  They even have sections especially for children, parents, and educators.  You are also able to search your local firehouses and learn about them too!

Be safe this holiday season and make sure you check out BeFireSmart just in case.

Snow Day!

It is terrible here in Illinois.  This is what my house looks like this morning:

 Snow Day!

We broke our back door trying to open it this morning.  My house is a sheet of ice.  We have about 4 inches of snow.  On top of that, we have freezing rain, so it is definitely an interesting combination we have going on out there.  We watched the traffic report starting quite early this morning, and at this point, Bill isn’t even going to try and go to work.  The bad thing is that he left his laptop at work, so he’s trying to do what he can from his cell phone.  It actually was hailing and snowing at the same time this morning if you can believe it.  We are hoping to take the kids out a tad later and maybe build a snowman.  However, the snow is more like ice chunks, so I don’t know how easy that is going to be.

 Snow Day!

LensShopper

If you aren’t lucky enough to have vision insurance or have vision insurance that will only pay up to a certain amount for your contact lenses, you should definitely check out LensShopper.  Now, my vision insurance will pay up to $250 a year for contact lenses.  That sounds like a lot, but if you wear contacts, you know it isn’t.  That only pays for a couple of months of contacts, and then I pay out of pocket for the rest.  My last order of contacts I stilled owed money on after they took the insurance off.  That is where LensShopper comes into play.  Their lenses are a ton cheaper than what I normally pay for my contacts!  They even have even better deals if you order in bulk!  I love that it tells me how long the delivery time is and whether or not the contacts are even in stock.  Nothing is more annoying than ordering contacts, and then after you place your order, you find out their are backordered.  I love that they even make it easy to find the best deals on their site by listing the best deals for each kind of contacts.  If you just want to search out your contacts, you can choose to search by manufacturer, lens type, and even popular lenses.

Now, I personsally use the Focus Night & Day contacts.  I found on their site that I can get a box for $40.95 (if I order bulk) and get free shipping!  I love free shipping!  That is a darn good deal for my contacts!  I would save almost $40 off my normal order of 6 boxes!  I can’t complain about savings like that!  If you need contacts, you need to definitely check out LensShopper for all your contact needs!
