I have catching up on all my shows that have been TIVO’d all week long. I am so glad that the writers are back! I was getting bored watching reruns that I have seen a million times already. So far tonight, I have watched Criminal Minds, Numbers, and CSI (Las Vegas). It still floors me that on these shows that they can find a fingerprint on, say, a gold bangle and in less than an hour find the killer. I just realized that all three shows are of the same genre — cop shows. Each is very unique and I love to watch all three of them.  I am still waiting for new shows of House, Bones, and Deadliest Catch.

Anybody see this season premiere last night?  I have to admit I was impressed.  I thought it was great.  I laughed throughout the whole show.  It already has some great plot twists.  I have already set my TIVO to tape the whole season.  Let me know if you saw it and what you thought of it.

I am watching an episode of Little People, Big World called “Trebbuchet Trouble; Accident Aftermath” on TLC (actually this is TIVO’d from this weekend). If you have never seen this show, you have too. It is really good. It is the story of a couple who happen to be midgets. They are showing the world that they are just like the rest of us.

This episode is about the trebbuchet accident. The trebbuchet was being used as a pumpkin launcher. Last episode at the very end, it hit Matt’s (the father) son Jacob and his business partner, Mike. This show is about the aftermath. I am sitting here tearing up, because I know how easy this could be my kid.

Like I said, if you haven’t seen this show, watch it!

Children’s programming is not what it use to be. I remember being a child and your only choice was Sesame Street. Nowadays, you have stations like Noggin and Nick Jr. who are dedicated to children’s program. My daughter does not even really like Sesame Street. Some of Madison’s favorite shows include Upside Down Show and Wonder Pets. I actually TIVO these two shows for her, so we can watch them any time we want.

The Upside Down show has Shane and David, and we get to watch their daily adventures. We have been to the art museum, the movies, and the airport among several other places with them. The part Madison loves the most about this show is the imaginary remote. She often plays with her imaginary remote even when we are not watching the show. Honestly, I find the show pretty corny, but my husband giggles right along with Madison (not sure what that says). There are several learning goals with this show:

Imaginative Play

• boosts creativity by modeling pretend play
• fosters a humorous approach to problem-solving
• models a think-outside-the-box attitude

Language and Early Literacy Skills

• introduces new vocabulary in surprising and funny ways
• reinforces phonological awareness with use of alliteration, rhyming, and other kinds of language play

• reinforces logical thinking skills such as making predictions and noticing connections
• models using abstract thinking and imagination to find new ways of looking at a problem
• demonstrates and explores relational concepts (high/low, inside/outside, light/dark)

Social and Emotional Development

• models cooperation and negotiation
• models accommodating and supporting the needs of others

At least she is learning when she is watching this. I do have to admit that my favorite imaginary remote button has to be the Irish dancing button.

The other show she enjoys is Wonder Pets. This show is about three classroom pets named Linny (he’s the guinea pig), Ming-Ming (the duck), and Tuck (the turtle). The show is about how these three animals turn into superhereos to save other animals in trouble. This is one of my favorite shows. It is cute and even holds my attention. The learning goals that are supported by this show are:

Cognitive Skills

• reinforces phonological awareness with its use of sung dialogue, rhythms, alliteration, and songs

• exposes viewers to a wide range of musical styles and formats

There are a few other show I like too, but these are Madison two main shows that we do not miss. These shows are not too annoying, and I like that she is learning something by watching them.

Just catching up on my TIVO tonight. I swear I really do watch less TV with the TIVO. However, we have lots of catching up to do. The bad thing is that I have to watch a lot of these shows twice, since Bill doesn’t get to watch them at the same time I get to.

Bill and Madison are watching Cinderella. Madison’s new favorite movie. They watch it together every single night. Let’s just say, Bill hates Cinderalla now. The funny thing is that on Saturday he was whining that we needed to get more movies for her. Low and behold, what did we find in our mail that day? An offer from Disney Movie Club. So I ended up joining because we got a great deal. Madison is getting 5 DVD’s for $26. I think that’s awesome. We only have to buy 2 more in the next 2 years at regular price. I think we can handle that.

After spending two nights in her new room, Madison ended climbing in our bed about midnight last night. I hate sleeping with her. Bill ended up smashed on one side and I was smashed on the other. We have a queen bed. So that means that she had more than half our bed to herself. Ahhhh. She’s two. She’s not that big. Why, oh why, does she need that much room?

My mother in law gave us a great idea. Instead of moving her into her big bed, she suggest that we buy Madison a new mattress for the new bed and put the mattess on the floor and let her get use to that before we move her into her big girl bed. So the question is how do I talk Bill into letting me buy her a Tinkerbell comforter set?
