Walgreen’s Grand Opening In Chicago #chiwalgreens #cbias

Sometimes I love my job. Last night was one of those nights! I was invited to the grand opening of the brand new Walgreen’s store on the corner of State and Randolph. WOW! is all I can say. Why? Well, here’s a few pictures of my experience there:

I was impressed (and a little jealous that my Walgreens isn’t this cool). It is nice to see that the store was trying to deliver both healthy and fresh items to their customers. I really wish more stores would go that route. Granted, they still had some processed meals for those who wanted them. However, they saw what their customers wanted and took their lead. I can definitely see people popping in here for lunch (the workers) and grocery shopping (local residents). For every main product, they had several choices — milk, snacks, even spaghetti! Their prices were in line with what I’d expect to pay (well, except for the $1999 cognac. I’m pretty sure I’m not paying that much). The virtual bartender was beyond awesome. There was just so many new and crazy things in there. My pictures definitely show how awesome it was.

Walgreens really made itself a one stop shop no matter what your reason being in the store. I don’t even live in the city, and I want to go back there! I mean where else can you go and get a prescription filled, eat some sushi, enjoy a wine tasting, get your nails done, and get a flu shot?

Men I Tell Ya

I swear men don’t think.  Ever.

Bill was getting some tools for our concrete project this weekend from his friend.  Since Will was sleeping on me, I asked him to get Will some Zyrtec.  (Earlier, in the week, I had Will into the doctor for a persistent cough that doesn’t seem to go away.  She figured it was either a virus or allergies.  I had to wait till Friday to see if the cough went away on its own.  If it didn’t, we were to give him Zyrtec).

He gets home about 8:30 pm, and I go to get Will his medicine.  Then I saw what Bill bought.  It was not good.  He bought Zyrtec D.  For adults.  In pill form.  I wish I was kidding.  I mean that’s like buying a L-shaped desk instead of a U-shaped desk.  Close but no cigar.  I asked if he bothered to talk to the pharmacist.  He said he did.  I then asked him if he told her (the pharmacist) that Will was there.  He didn’t.  (I asked Bill how exactly Will, who is three, was suppose to take this pill.  His response that he should just swallow it.  At three years old.  I’m currently banging my head against the wall).

So I rushed out at 8:30 to get back to Walgreens and return what he bought.  It’s great having to return medicine to get what I really needed and having to explain to both the manager and the pharmacist why.

I don’t get it.  If Bill goes to the store for something like say a computer desk, he won’t mess that up.  However, if I send him to the grocery store or Walgreens, this is what I get.  I swear men do this on purpose so they don’t have to help!

What do you think?

Congratulations To Me!

Okay, enough with the politics stuff today. Instead, I have some way awesome news. I just made my last van payments after 5 years. We own the van free and clear. WOOHOOO!!!  My question is — what’s going to break now.  LOL

Now, I would enjoy this a whole lot more if I wasn’t sitting here with a box of tissues, some cough drops, and DayQuil. Everybody else in the house got sick last week, and I think I’m getting it now! Will started it with a double ear infection, and Madison has a bad cold.  Bill got sick over the weekend with his cold.  I wondering if we need to get pet insurance — Daisy seems to be the only healthy one!  I’ve got a big weekend coming up (I’ll be heading to the Housewares show downtown), and I don’t want to be sick!!!

Though on a better note, while picking up the tissues, Dayquil, and the cough drops this morning, I found some cute stuff to put in the kids Easter Baskets (Walgreens had Hello Kitty beanie babies!  How could I turn that down?).  I’ve come to the conclusion that you can buy almost anything at Walgreens nowadays (I wouldn’t be surprised if they started selling cat insurance.  They had cat beds, food, toys, etc).

We’ve had a rough start this year.  I’m hoping that we can only go up from here!
