I’m a fan of movies that can be watched with my kids. Sadly, it gets harder and harder every year. That’s why I am glad to see that P&G and WalMart have worked together to bring another great movie for Family Movie Night. Candace Cameron Bure (Full House) stars in Truth Be Told as Colorado’s leading marriage counselor, Annie Morgan, advising her clients that “honesty is the best policy” and also the key to successful long-term relationships. Ironically, Annie has never been married and doesn’t always follow her own advice. Through a misunderstanding, Annie receives an invitation for her and her spouse to join media mogul Terrance Bishop (Ronny Cox, “Stargate SG-1″), at his New Mexico ranch to discuss her dream job: hosting a radio advice program. Fearful that being single will ruin her chance of a lifetime, Annie conspires with Mark Crane (David James Elliott, “JAG” and “Scoundrels”), an old college friend, recent widower, and father of two teenagers, to pose as a married couple for the weekend. A series of comical misunderstandings color the trip, leaving Annie emotionally involved with Mark’s family and battling with her own conscience. As the humorous and heartwarming story unfolds, Annie begins to realize that the truth may have its consequences, but ultimately it’s what opens our hearts and brings out the best in each other. It’s a movie that questions those little white lies we tell. However, it is also a movie about opening our hears and bringing out the best in others. Box Tops & A $50 Giveaway Too!

The school that Madison is going to next year collects Box Tops. If you don’t know what Box Tops is, let me explain. There are a ton of items that you can buy that have the image to the left on the box. You collect these for your local schools, and they get 10 cents for every one you turn in. Now, that doesn’t sound like a lot, but when if you can get a bunch of people together, it adds up quickly. Now, the school’s goal is to earn $750 from Box Tops. Last year, they made $536, and I would love for them to meet their goal for this year (even though Madison is not even enrolled yet. I understand that any extra money to the school with benefit her). Now, there are several ways we can do this for our local schools.

First, you need to log into the Box Tops site and create an account. You enter your state and your school or if you don’t know that, just enter your zip code. I personally entered the school and state. From there, you are able to see how your local school is going. Now, how do you increase that number? Well, you can collect box tops with that logo on it. They also have a Marketplace. Now, until recently, I did not know about the Marketplace. This works so awesome too! There is a list of stores that will give a percentage of whatever you buy from them back to the school. There are stores like Avon, Gap, Kohls, Best Buy, Leap Frog, Target, and Walmart (this is just a couple of them — the whole listing is on the site). All you have to do is log into the Box Tops Site, click on marketplace, then click on the store you want to shop it. That’s it. Once you checkout, the percentage you purchased will then be applied to your school. If you are Christmas shopping online anyway, why not help out your local school (and if you don’t want to help any of them out, I’ll tell you the school we are sending our money too, and you can use them).

Sheryl Crow anyone?

I love when the artists that we know and love come up with new ways for us to enjoy their works. Sheryl Crow is the latest. Bill and I are both fans (yes, even though I do listen to Nine Inch Nails, I do like more mellow stuff like Sheryl Crow). I have lots of great memories of the summer of 1995 and her music (did I just date myself?). When I found out she was working with Soundcheck, we immediately had to go check it out. I have to admit that what they have done is super cool. Soundcheck allows you to get up close and personal with her. You are able to view her live performances and see exclusive behind the scenes stuff. All of this is filmed in HD. She is such an interesting person that you have to enjoy this. I would love to see how she manages to be an A-list superstar and being a mom. Both are full time jobs. She also talks about leaving LA and her new album. It is always interesting to hear what the artists think and feel when they don’t have a PR person whispering in their ear. I hope you enjoy watching this as much as we did.

Toxic Flip Flops: Another Reason Not To Shop At Walmart

I do not normally shop at Walmart due to the fact that they are nonunion. I live in Chicago which is a huge union town, and Bill prefers that I don’t shop there. When I came across the story about the Toxic Flip Flops, I knew that I had to write about it. Kerry Stiles basically bought a pair of cheap flip flops from Walmart to wear. However, after wearing them, this is what her feet looked like:

This isn’t the worst picture either. I picked a picture that wouldn’t completely gross you out. Head over to her site to see more. I have to warn you — some of the pictures are pretty graphic. Obviously, it was pretty easy to figure out what she did that caused these burns. She tried to be nice and filed a report with Walmart. They treated her like dirt and basically told her that she had to contact the maker of the flip flops which of course is in China.

The amazing part of the story is that Walmart never removed the flip flops from the racks. According to Walmart, only ten people have complained. However, she has hundreds of people contact her with their stories. Several people have contacted lawyers. This is what her feet look like 7 months later:

Local news channels picked up on her story also, and Walmart still has these on their shelves! I am guessing she is going to have some permanent scarring from these if it still looks like this seven months later! I do hope that enough people join together in a class action suit to make Walmart do something. I hate it when the almighty dollar is more important the health of American public. You think these companies would learn.

Needless to say, I will NEVER buy a pair of flip flops from Walmart.
