Four Foods On Friday

I know, I know — some weeks I actually remember to do this.  I love reading every else’s answers to the weekly questions too!  As I was making my slow cooker beef stew, I decided that I think I am going to start a cooking blog (which these weekly questions would go great on)!  But onto the questions:

#1. What is your favorite kind of juice to drink?  Umm, not a big juice drinker here, so I’ll go with orange juice.
#2. Pizza. What’s your favorite?  Pepperoni.
#3. Mustard. Yellow, brown, depends.  I hate mustard.
#4. Share a side dish recipe that uses rice or pasta.  I have to add this one later.  My laptop that has all my recipes on it blew up and until I can get it working again, I have no access to any of my recipes.  I am hoping to get this added to this shortly!

Four Foods On Friday

Okay, I have been slacking.  I keep forgetting to do this meme.  Here are the questions for this week:

#1. Bacon. Chewy, crispy or burnt?  Chewy.  Doesn’t that sound so yummy?
#2. Mayonnaise or miracle whip?  I am a miracle whip girl, but the hubby is a mayonnaise man.  Yes, we have a jar of each  in the house.

#3. What green vegetable is used in Italian Wedding soup?  Spinach (I had to look it up though – lol)

#4. Share a recipe that you use Italian sausage in.  Lasagna:

Ingredients:

1 box (16 oz) lasagna noodles
1 lb sweet Italian sausage
1 medium yellow onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
2 eggs
2 lbs ricotta cheese
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (8 oz)
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 jar (48 oz) seasoned tomato sauce

Makes 8 servings
Prep time: 25 minutes
Bake time: 1 hour

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Cook lasagna noodles as package directs; drain and rinse.

Meanwhile, in a nonstick skillet, cook sausage and onion till brown. Drain fat. Stir in garlic and red pepper flakes. Remove from heat and set aside.

In a large bowl, combine eggs, ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan, and basil. Mix well.

Spread a layer of tomato sauce in a 13 x 9 inch baking dish; top with a layer of noodles. Cover noodles with a layer of the cheese mixture; top with some sausage mixture. Cover with a layer of sauce. Repeat layering with noodles, cheese mixture, sausage mixture, and sauce. Top with final layer of noodles and sauce.

Bake covered for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake about 15 minutes. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Police

We got home from the doctor’s two nights ago to about a zillion police cars last night. Ok, it was not a zillion, but it sure felt like a lot. There were 2 squads with their lights on about 7 houses down the street parked. There was a squad car patrolling the alley that goes along side of my house. There was a squad car driving up and down my street with its light thingy shining into our yards. There was also two cops on foot and one of them had a dog. When we drove into the alley to park, we also passed two squad cars. Me, being nosy, asked Bill if I should get the mail and see if I could find out what was going on. So, here I go, in the dark, to my mailbox trying to see if I could get a least a hint of the chaos surrounding us. Of course, couldn’t find anyone to talk to. I then walked back to the house and then saw the two cops on foot. I yelled to them that we just got home and was there a break in. They said no but that if I saw a black kid with a black polo shirt on that I should call the police immediately.

I then went into the house. Bill and I proceeded to make sure that every door and window in our place was locked. Bill even locked the garage which we never do. It was a bit freaky. Any idea what that kid must have done to warrant that kind of police presence? I am guessing this isn’t just a case of breaking and entering.
