Washing Machine

I have a very weird thing happening with my washing machine. First, let me tell you that I don't know how old it is. We've been in this house 2 years, and it came with the house. We replaced the dryer in the fall due to it not working. Ok, here's my problem:

Random clothes are getting blotches of color. For example, I went to switch the load into the dryer yesterday. The entire load was white clothes, so there was no color bleeding going on here. One of Bill's socks and one burp rap had blue and pink spotches all over it. Everything else in that load was fine.

Any ideas and how do I fix this?

I'd run a bleach wash through it to clear out anything lurking in there. Then do a test wash using some white rags, or old clothes – might work.
