10 Things You Can To Do To Celebrate Be Kind to Humankind Week

Can you believe it is August already? School is right around the corner for all our kids. Also, the 4th week in August in Be Kind To Humankind week. There are so many ways we can help those we know and even those we don't. It is so easy to be kind to others. It is something that I work on with my kids and their school does the same. If you can't figure out what to do that week to help celebrate, I have put together a small list of things you can do to be kind to one another:

  1. Pay for the person behind you in supermarket, the drive thru line, the Starbucks line, etc. This is one of those things you don't think to do, but it can totally make somebody's day. I haven't had somebody pay for me yet, but I know several people it has happened to. They also paid it forward.
  2. Donate your “stuff”. We all have boxes of stuff in our house that we are no longer using. We are surrounded by stuff we don't need. Take those boxes and donate them to Goodwill, Savers, Salvation Army, etc. Women's shelters also tend to be a place people don't think to donate too. We try to donate kids stuff there, because the kids there usually have been through a lot and had to leave their toys.
  3. Give fresh food to the local food pantry. If you go to any of your local food pantries, they will tell you that fresh food is NOT something they get a lot of. What they do get is appreciated and that it flies out the door as soon as they get it. I've actually donated extra vegetables out of our garden that we couldn't use.

You can read the rest of my list over on the Tampico website. By offering your time, your talent, and your treasure, you can easily be kind to others. These are just a few suggestions for Be Kind to Humankind Week.

How will you celebrate Be Kind to Humankind Week?

  1. This is definitely a week the world can use. We should all be kind to each other all the time, but a week is a great place to start!

  2. Liz Leiro

Too bad it’s only a week! People should be nice to each other always. I love your suggestions because they’re such little, easy things that always slip our mind. I’m going to clean out my closet and donate some clothes 🙂

  3. Christy Maurer

I think that being kind is something that we are hugely lacking in! These are some good ideas to share the love 🙂

  4. Alli

It’s so much fun to pay-it-forward by paying for the person’s order behind me in the drive-thru. Just a few days ago someone paid for my coffee in Starbucks. It just feels good to share the love.

  5. Robin (Masshole Mommy)

Someone paid for me once in the Dunkin Donuts drive thru and it totally made my day, You have great ideas here.

  6. Megan Elford

I got to the drive thru window one day to discover that someone else had paid for my order. It totally made my day! Being kind is so easy, but it makes a huge impact!

  7. What a wonderful post! Truth be told we do not celebrate be kind to humankind week but that does not mean we can’t start! If my family were to celebrate it we would make it simple such as share three kind things you did today and everyone will have to share that story during dinner time!

  8. Jeannette

I’m going to try to celebrate by doing all three of these things this week! I already paid for someone behind me in line at the coffee shop this morning but this makes me want to do even more!

  9. Liz Mays

I could definitely do all of these things. We’ll have to keep these in mind as we move through the month!

  10. rika

I donated clothes, shoes, shampoo, body wash to a family today. I feel good about it. I think we need to be kind , always!

  11. Katie

It has really made my day when the person in front of me at the drive through paid for my Chickfila and it made me feel even better when I paid it forward to the car behind me and they honked and excitedly waved when crossed path back on the road.

  12. Joanne T Ferguson

What a great list of things to do! I never knew we had a Humankind week so thank you for highlighting!

  13. Annemarie LeBlanc

I love the idea of paying it forward. I have done it several times in the past and I know how it feels to be a recipient of such a kind act. I hope the whole world would participate in this. One week of pure kindness can go a long long way!

  14. Breanna

I am a huge fan of Random Acts of Kindness – so this post gives me ALL the warm fuzzies. I love it, and your ideas are AWESOME! 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

What wonderful week to celebrate! These are great ideas, always good t give back to the community!

  20. I had no idea that is was Be Kind to Humankind Week, but I make it a daily thing. When I was very young and temping my way through College, I worked in a theological seminary for rabbi’s I remember my boss stressing the important of performing a random act of kindness everyday, it hit home and I have followed his example and teachings ever since. Your list are my top three ways of helping also. As a blogger I also take on one main editorial pro bono project per year and pick a charity and donate them a year of posts free of charge, this one has been quite popular and I need to soon begin thinking about who it will be for 2016.

  21. Every kindness, no matter how small goes a long way. I love the idea of paying it forward. Being doesn’t have to be just a week, we should make it a habit. 🙂

  22. Tiffany

I had someone pay it forward at Chick Fil A. It was very nice, and such a blessing. I never thought about giving FRESH food to the food pantry! I was afraid it would go bad there!

  23. These are some excellent ideas on how to make an impact in another human being’s life. Even if it’s something small it can do so much for someone who needs it.

  24. Krystal

I need to make a donation to support the cause. I have a lot of food and clothing that could go to a better use.

  25. Chubskulit Rose

I have given some of my kids school uniform to a friend whose daughter is starting to go to my kids school. Uniforms are expensive and she can use the uniform without spending a dime. Thanks for the tips.

  26. Rebecca Swenor

These are great ways to pay it forward and help others in need at the same time. I am going to be donating a lot of household items to a thrift store in our area very soon here because I am moving. I usually donate to them at least once a year. Thanks for sharing.

  27. Mike

I always encourage random acts of kindness with my own kids and the kids I teach, but I’ve got to be honest and say that I didn’t know there was a special week set aside for being nice to each other. It’s a great idea, and I think I’ll try to encourage my own to celebrate a similar week when school gets back in session!
