Sitting around the television watching a movie together may not sound like there’s much bonding happening. When a family decides to have a family movie night together they’re often thinking about how much they will love or hate the film, whether they have enough popcorn and if everyone will stay awake for the duration of the film. That last thing on everyone’s mind is probably the reasons you should watch movies as a family. Today I’m sharing my top 4 reasons to watch movies as a family to help inspire you to host a family movie night soon.

Quality Family Time

When you find yourself quickly welcomed into the world of raising teenagers, it’s important to find unique ways to bond. A teenager isn’t very forthcoming with their ability to ask for family time, so you must be proactive in your ways. Watching movies as a family when raising a teenager will allow some quality family time together without any pressure on your teenager to engage.

Increases Conversations

When you watch movies as a family you have a common bond over a film. Whether you loved the movie or hated it, there’s still a conversation that happens. When the movie is finished, sure you may head to sleep but days later you’ll be discussing the events that transpired in that film. You’ll find that watching movies as a family increases conversations between everyone in the family.

Allows Relaxation

Everyone in the family has to deal with a busy week. Between work, school and household chores it’s no wonder (aff) many families are stressed out. Watching movies together as a family allows you a chance to decompress from a busy week. Whether you’re 5 or 99, our lives are pretty hectic and this family movie night will ensure you all have a moment to pause from the real world.

Creates a Bond

Lastly, when you opt to watch movies together as a family, you’ve opened the doors to more family bonding moments. Consider letting the kids choose the movie from time to time, which will surely help boost that bond that’s created during movie time. Seated together in the living room, watching a movie over popcorn is a wonderful way to create a bond with your whole family.

There are many reasons why you should opt to watch movies together as a family but these four are by far the best reasons. I hope that you are inspired to start watching movies with your kids soon, it’s a great way to increase conversations, build a stronger bond and detach from a busy lifestyle.
