Have you heard of Amwell yet? If not, they are seriously the best thing since sliced bread! I'm serious! Amwell was the most popular consumer telehealth app worldwide in 2014 according to App Annie! They are the first telehealth service awarded accreditation by The American Telemedicine Association and the first telehealth platform to integrate with Apple’s Health App. They are also the only service that allows you to select the doctor you want to see for an on-demand visit! Here are five reasons you will want to use them:
- Lower cost. Consumers expect online visits to be cost-savers; with in-office visits costing $82 for first-time patients according to the Healthcare Blue Book,Amwelloffers a $49 physician visit – a savings of $33. Great option for students in college looking for cost-effective healthcare or those between jobs and without insurance.
- Accessibility. After hours, on weekends and in the middle of the night (24/7/365) availability. Great for those who do have transportation or when you don’t feelwellenough to drive and those who are newly relocated and don’t have providers yet. For me, this is the best because my kids don't get sick from 9-5! They are notorious for getting sick at night and on the weekends!
- Convenience. Consumers are looking for a faster appointment. Now they don’t need to schedule an appointment nor do they need to wait to be seen, especially if on vacation or business travel. The doctor can be seen from the comfort and convenience of their own home.
- Quick prescriptions. Consumers would rather have an online video visit than an in-office visit to obtain common primary care prescriptions.
- Peace of mind. Rather than self-diagnosing or visiting a social forum for medical advice, users can obtain second opinions directly from board certified, licensed doctors.
Those are some pretty great reasons, right? I know that we've all been there. The really cool thing is that they have all sorts of doctors. I've used their therapy services already and talked to a counselor. I was even able to talk to a nutritionist!
That comes in very handy if you are like me and have 30 food allergies. It limits what you can eat and bouncing ideas of how to supplement foods you need against what you are allergic to can be struggle. We talked about some protein shakes on the market that would help keep my protein levels up without having my allergens. (My protein level is usually notoriously low.) We talked about how fruits and vegetables were pretty safe for me too (just have to watch what we are cooking them in!) Talking to somebody in the know was extremely helpful!
