7 Ways Pregnancy Now is Different From Our Parents

Tracking PixeldisclosureYou all have to agree that pregnancy nowadays is so different than our parents. The medical advances alone have changed so much between the baby boomer generation vs. the millennials. I came up with a short list of ways pregnancy has change:

  1. Back in the day, they didn't know the second they were pregnant (okay, we don't know the second but we know a whole lot earlier than they did!). tool-317111_640
  2. They didn't have ultrasounds like we do. (I think I had 6 ultrasounds with Madison, and with Will, I ended up with a 3D one because my triple screen came back ungodly high).
  3. There was no such thing as helicopter parenting or free-range parenting.
  4. One of the best changes though has to be prenatal vitamins. To be honest, I don't think they were around when my mom had me! That being said, did you know prescriptions prenatals are really for everyone? They aren't just for high risk pregnancies (and they can even be taken even if you aren't pregnant!). Vitafol® is the #1 doctor recommended prescription prenatal vitamin line with more of the vital nutrition you need. It provides the vital nutrition you need for a healthy pregnancy. As somebody who doesn't digest tablets very well, I was so excited to hear about the Vitafol Gummies. They have complete nutrition with almost twice as much folic acid as over-the-counter gummies, and they also contain iron. Vitafol Gummies are delicious and they are gluten and lactose-free. I can't tell you how much I wish that I could have gotten these when I was pregnant. I use to throw up my pills and what I did manage to keep down, I didn't absorb. It was this horrible constant cycle that would have been resolved with Vitafol! Make sure to check out their FB page!screen-shot-2016-11-07-at-7-56-07-pm
  5. We have more delivery options. C-sections can be planned and scheduled. Also, due to ultrasounds, we have a way better idea of due dates.
  6. Medications. There was nothing for preterm labor. I thank my lucky stars that when I had my kids there was. With two kids with preterm labor issues, it truly was life saver.dsc03996-blue
  7. We have more say in what's going on. There was no such thing as a birth plan when we were born. Now, we all discuss with our doctors what music we want played, if we want an epidural, and all those things beforehand. after-drugs-1-7

Make sure you share how your #millennial #pregnancy(ies) compares/compared to #BabyBoomer pregnancies on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #BabyBodyReady and check out http://bit.ly/BabyBodyReady for more information on Vitafol Ultra, Vitafol Fe+ with more iron and Vitafol Gummies and get a money saving coupon!

In the end, we all end up with a baby. We may do things differently but some things stay the same.

How do you think parenting and pregnancy has changed since our parents had us?

I feel like everything about parenthood is filled with more pressure and anxiety than our parents’ generation. I blame social media and everyone’s need to keep up with what everyone else is doing.

  2. Sarah Bailey

It is amazing how things have progressed over the year and how times have made things so much quicker in many ways.

  3. Paula Schuck

It is SO much different now. And I’m so glad. Babies are so much more healthy now than they ever were before.

  4. Jeanette

My mom was amazed how much it had changed since she had me! I think the biggest thing was ultra sound! She loved seeing my son on the screen!

  5. I think things are definitely harder now. Not technology wise. We have it easier now than our parents did. But the judgement that is passed on parents now if you don’t do something that is the “new way” of doing things.

  6. Ann Bacciaglia

I find there is a lot more technology for after the baby is born now then when I had my kids. I love some of the high tech monitors they have now. I wish I would have been able to have a 3D ultrasound when I was pregnant.

  7. Angelic Sinova

I don’t have kids yet but when I do, I know it will be a super different experience than when my mom was pregnant with me. I still can’t believe there are 3D ultrasound now!

  8. I definitely think pregnancy has changed just in the last 20 years. I had my first 18 years ago, and now that I’m pregnant with baby #4, it’s a bit different. So many ultrasounds!

  9. Libertad Green

I would like to think things are a lot safer now, and that they can and will continue to improve. There are more options for people, too!

Pregnancy and birth are totally different now than when our parents had us! I love this article!

    Awww…Love your family photo!
I couldn’t agree more that pre-natal vitamins are so very important for the health of the mother and baby. Thankfully, babies are born healthier today too!

  12. Pam Wattenbarger

Prenatal vitamins are a great innovation in pregnancy. I was amazed at some of the tests they could do for my daughter when she was pregnant, too.

  13. LaShawn

So much has changed since my mother had my brother and myself. Prenatal vitamins certainly changed even since I had my son 7 years ago!

  14. coolchillmom

Pregnancy really is very different these days. I have to say I think the 4-D ultrasounds are the biggest craziest difference

  15. This is absolutely oh, so true! In my parents era women are being encouraged (slightly forced too!) to have babies before they are even 30 because they fear 30s are considered too risky and old but look how far we’ve come along? I’m 37 and I still wish to have another baby one day 🙂

  16. melanie

Yes, this is so good. All these are totally true. So many different things these days.

  17. Bill S

It is amazing how much times have changed when it comes to pregnancies!!! What a great comparison of how things have changed.

  18. Mimi Green

I’m so thankful that things have changed. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have the modern convenience.

  19. rika

So much changed! My mom delivered all three kids naturally, no C section option back then

  20. Polarbelle

the one thing my parents had that I didn’t was a better diet consisting of whole foods. I was raised with white bread and Mcdonalds. They didn’t have fast food, really, so they did have better nutrition going for them….but man, they smoked and everything thru pregnancy

  21. Chubskulit Rose

I definitely agree. With all the advanced technology and stuff, pregnancy these days is a lot more convenient in terms of a lot of things compared to the olden days.

  22. Tatanisha W

Thanks for the side-by-side. It’s interesting to see how things have progressed over the years. I love all of the modern day technology, and can’t imagine living without it!
