One of the really cool things we got to do while I was in LA for the Frozen premiere was take a tour of Walt Disney Studios. Meet Jeffrey Epstein, our tour guide!
Now, if you have seen Saving Mr. Banks, you may recognize this spot. This is where P.L. Travers meets the Mary Poppins team that Walt has in place.
This Walt Disney Studios’ lot is home to one of Los Angeles’ largest sound stages (Stage 2), now christened the “Julie Andrews Stage” because the 31,200 square foot building housed much of the filming of “Mary Poppins” in 1963.
This is the famous Disney Water Tower. Years ago, they actually used it for water! Notice anything different about it? Yes, unlike most water towers it has six legs instead of 5. (A good piece of Trivial Pursuit knowledge if you ask me.)
There was even something taping that day! I wonder if it was any of these:
We even got our picture taken in front of theater that Walt use to screen movies with the public:
We also got our pictures taken in from of the old entrance to the animation studios:
Again, if you've seen Saving Mr. Banks, you will recognize this from a scene in there:
We also got to see where Walt's office was:
Did you know that “Saving Mr. Banks” was filmed entirely in the Los Angeles area, with key locations that included Disneyland in Anaheim, TCL Chinese Theatre (formerly called Grauman’s Chinese Theatre) in Hollywood (where the 1964 premiere of “Mary Poppins” took place), the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank (which opened in 1940 and where the 1964 movie filmed in its entirety) and the 10,000 acre Big Sky Ranch in Simi Valley (which doubled for the film’s early 20th landscape)?
I even got to shop at the Disney store and bring home some Christmas presents!
It was beyond cool to walk the grounds of the Disney Studios. Anything I should have asked a question about that you are dying to know?
I can’t wait to see Saving Mr Banks 🙂
Looks like so much fun! I would love to be able to attend something like this!
