Discovery Girls Giveaway

This giveaway is now over. The winner is Ann F. Congrats!

Most girls magazines feature celebrity articles, and honestly, they are all about boys. What if there was something different out there that girls would like and that wasn’t all about boys, celebrities, and how to lose 5 pounds in 7 days? There is.

Discovery Girls is a national magazine aimed at girls between the ages of 8 and 13. Their mission is to inspire and encourage girls to be more confident and resilient and help them deal with those difficult situations that all girls run into growing up. They give girls advice and wholesome content addressing everything from peer pressure to hairstyles to future careers. Most importantly though, much of their content comes from the girls themselves. Their embarrassing moments, their questions answered, and statistics are all gathered from their answers to our questions, polls, and surveys. They have the beat on what girls nowadays are going through. All this content helps connect them to each other and realize they’re all going through the same thing in their own unique way.
Instead of celebrities, they feature real girls on the cover and in every issue. They choose 12 girls from a specific state to inspire their readers.

Madison and I recently got to check out their magazine, and I have to admit I’m impressed. It is in a format that kids like (well, Madison did), yet it is full of really good articles and information for girls. I personally love the NO celebrity approach since it seems like all the “girl” role models celebrity wise all have their issues that are playing out in mainstream media. I don’t like having to explain why one day she’s a Disney girl and the next she’s gyrating on stage. I also don’t need Madison (who is 7) to go boy crazy any earlier than she needs to. Madison spent over an hour reading this magazine when it came, and when asked, she told me she liked it.

Since we enjoyed this magazine so much (and there is nothing else out there that even compares!), I’ve arranged for one lucky reader to get their very own Discovery Girls Prize Pack. In it, there is: a 1 Year subscription to the Discovery Girls magazine ($20), 1 Set of their Fab Girls 4-book set ($40), and 1 Copy of our Collector’s Edition which encompasses 10 years of the best content from their magazine plus more special features ($10). Here’s what you need to do:
