Screen Shot 2016-08-01 at 10.07.22 PMCarbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless and odorless gas known as the silent killer. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, CO poisoning is the number one cause of accidental poisoning in the United States. Diagnosis of CO poisoning can be difficult because symptoms mimic those of many other illnesses and include nausea, headaches, dizziness, weakness, chest pain and vomiting. In more severe poisoning cases, people may experience disorientation or unconsciousness, or suffer long-term neurological disabilities, cardiorespiratory failure or death. Regardless of a home (aff)’s age, people can be exposed to this poisonous gas, which originates from anything that burns fuel, such as gas furnaces, stoves, water heaters, barbeque grills, wood-burning fireplaces, generators, and automobiles. My aunt's entire family almost died many years ago from carbon monoxide poisoning, so it is something I worry about in my own home (aff).

That is why I have to tell you about the First Alert 10-Year Battery Carbon Monoxide Detector. The thing I love most about it is that it comes with batteries that last the life of the alarm. I'm horrible about changing batteries. I love that I don't have to worry about this and if they batteries are working. It gives you an end of life warning telling you it’s time to take it down and put up a new one (it doesn’t get much easier than that). I also love that it has a digital readout letting you and first responders know what the highest level of carbon monoxide was. It also tells you the temperature in the home.

With winter getting closer, it is time to start thinking about what will happen when we close our houses up. I highly recommend getting the First Alert 10-Year Battery Carbon Monoxide Detector!
