Fearless optimist Anna (voice of Kristen Bell) sets off on an epic journey—teaming up with rugged mountain man Kristoff (voice of Jonathan Groff) and his loyal reindeer Sven—to find her sister Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel), whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter. Encountering Everest-like conditions, mystical trolls and a hilarious snowman named Olaf (voice of Josh Gad), Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom.

Move over Disney princess, there are two new princesses in town! I have to admit that one of my favorite things about this movie is that the princesses aren't your normal princesses. For me, that is a huge draw. These princesses aren't perfect — they have their own issues (granted one of those issues is accidently freezing their town but hey, we've all been there right? LOL)

Also be prepared that Frozen is loosely taken from the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale, “The Snow Queen.” When I say loosely, I mean if you have read it already, it's not the same story. It pretty much borrowed the snow queen and well, she's a princess for a good chunk of the movie!

The movie opens with the girls (Elsa and Anna) as children who act, well, like children. That is where we discover that one of the girls has a special power. We also learn how that power when not used correctly can have disastrous consequences.

There are so many reasons you need to see this movie today (or this weekend, multiple times!), and there are so many reasons I love it:

  1. This isn't your typical damsel in distress movie. It's like no other princess movie I've ever seen.
  2. Olaf. The snowman is worth it alone.
  3. It shows how strong a family bond is.
  4. It's funny. You will find yourself (and your kids) laughing throughout.
  5. I promised no spoilers but there is an awesome twist or two in here. I can guess a movies' ending usually five minutes in and well, I missed one of the twists!
  6. The soundtrack is just as amazing as the film!
  7. The princesses aren't perfect. They have their flaws and act, well, they act just like us awkward and all.
  8. Sven. Who doesn't love an animated reindeer? (Did you know that reindeers in real life do actually act like dogs do? The mannerisms you see in the movie are taken from real reindeer behavior.)
  9. This isn't your typical Disney love story.
  10. I said so! It's that good!

Frozen is directed by Chris Buck (“Tarzan,” “Surf’s Up”) and Jennifer Lee (screenwriter, “Wreck-It Ralph”), who also wrote the screenplay. It is produced by Peter Del Vecho (“Winnie the Pooh,” “The Princess and the Frog”). Featuring original songs from Kristen Anderson-Lopez (“In Transit,” “Winnie the Pooh”) and Tony® winner Robert Lopez (“The Book of Mormon,” “Avenue Q”), and an original score by Christophe Beck (“The Muppets,” Oscar®-winning short “Paperman”), “Frozen” hits theaters in 3D TODAY. Run to go to see it! It is that good!
