It is hard to believe that summer is almost here! With school letting out comes vacation time. My family and I will be heading off on vacation. Vacations can be expensive, so we have been saving for a while. That's where the Green Dot® Reloadable Prepaid Visa® Card helps. I don't have to worry about overspending or having to carry a wad of cash!
Using the Green Dot® Reloadable Prepaid Visa® Card to budget and pay for your summer outing makes it easy to manage your money. The only thing you have to think about while you’re out is having fun! With a clearly communicated monthly fee plan, the Green Dot® Reloadable Prepaid Visa® Card means that confusing fees won’t distract you while you’re enjoying the summer. If your card is lost or stolen while you’re out having fun, don’t worry. Your Green Dot® Reloadable Prepaid Visa® Card funds are protected by Visa’s Zero Liability* policy! This is perfect for a person like me. When I have cash, it burns a hole in my pocket. I am much more comfortable with a card!
Getting a Green Dot® Reloadable Prepaid Visa® Card is so easy! I was able to run to my local Walgreens to pick one up. I will warn you — they aren't in with the gift cards. In my Walgreens, they had their own endcap display. I don't want you to miss seeing them! Cards can be purchased at nationwide retailers like CVS, 7-Eleven, Kmart, Family Dollar, Dollar General, Rite Aid, Walgreens and Walmart.
Once you get your card, you need to load it. I loaded mine right at the store. Additional loading options include:
- Direct Deposit – Have your paycheck or government benefits automatically deposited to your card. It’s faster than receiving a paper check and there’s no charge. Direct deposit all or part of your paycheck.
- Reload at a Store – Reloading with cash is fast and easy! Simply swipe your card at the register, and the cash will be automatically loaded to your card. Available at thousands of participating retailers nationwide. Reload fee and limits apply.
- Reload with a check at Walmart – Cash a check at Walmart and reload your card at any register. Must be a preprinted check, like a payroll or government check. Walmart check cashing fees and limits apply. Services not available in all states or stores. Reloads cannot exceed card limits. Your receipt is proof of your load.
- Transfer money from another Green Dot card – It’s free to receive money on your Green Dot card. All the sender needs is a Green Dot card and either your email address or mobile phone number. After the money is sent, you can load it directly to your card (or send it to your PayPal account). Limits apply.
- Transfer money from a bank account – Transfer money from your bank account to your Green Dot card. Choose 1 or 3 (aff) business day transfer. Reload fee and limits apply.
This gives you so many way to reload. Honestly, I can't wait to take it on vacation!

I really like the direct deposit and also that I can find it at my local Walgreens. Thanks for the great and useful post! ^_^
GREAT idea!! Especially since they don’t expire..what a perfect way to save for vacation before you go on vacation!
And most places accept visa so it’s a win win.
This is great. I always use prepaid cards when I travel. That way, if it gets stolen thieves are only able to take what’s on the card instead of destroying my credit.
Sounds like a smart way to travel to me. I think it’s better than carrying around cash.
Prepaid cards are the only way to go when travelling, in my opinion. I’ve never tried Green Dot before. I’ll have to check it out.
Thanks for the review! Sounds like a neat way to travel without risking losing your real credit or debit card.
I love the idea of prepaid credit cards. I did have an issue with one recently when trying to pay at a restaurant — apparently they don’t work well when you add a tip to the bill. Besides that, I really like the idea of not having to carry cash or my main debit card!
What a great idea.. Perfect for travel or everyday use. I like that you can reload it when you are running low.
I also like to use prepaid cards when I travel, less to worry about that’s for sure!
This is a great way to manage money. I don’t like coming home to an unexpectedly large bill.

This is a really good idea for using this on vacation! I know a lot of people don’t like using a credit card online, so this would really help them out with that.
My son has been out of school for almost a month now. Yes vacations can be astronomical, good to know how to save.
A smart way to travel! Take only what you can afford with a prepaid card! Great idea for a tight budget!
I’ve used this card before. I think I got mine at CVS.
This is perfect for vacation! It’s not attached to a bank account, so if it gets stolen, the thief can’t wipe out your account. Great idea!
Never heard of this before, but it sounds super useful! I will have to look into it more, it would be a cool thing to have on vacations.
Very cool! I didn’t know you could pick up re loadable ones. These would definitely come in handy for gifts or trips.

My best friend probably wish he had this when he traveled to New Orleans a couple summers ago, because a waitress stole his credit card information to pay her car insurance bill. Using something like this is definitely a smarter and easier way to travel!

Thanks for the review! I found these at my dollar tree the other day and was pretty curious about them. Ill have to pick one up now!
There are so many benefits to getting a prepaid card. As long as they don’t charge fees to use it, then it would be worth putting your travel budget on it. Then you can easily track how much money you have left and keep you out of debt.
I love those reloadable prepaid cards. It makes traveling so much easier and convenient. I use them just about everywhere I go!
I also like using prepaid cards when I travel. I love that you can just load how much you would like to spend.

I like carrying around a card versus cash myself. This sounds like a great way to use money while on vacation.
I think reloadable Visa cards like this are a great way to stay on budget when you travel. I took one to Disney World with me and it was a lot easier to stay within my spending limits (I didn’t have a choice!)
This is a great alternative to a traditional debit card and would be perfect for traveling with!! Thanks for the heads up and great review!!
This is so convenient and such a great way to manage money as opposed to having an absurb limit and over-spending!
I like the idea of not having to carry my debit card or cash around while I am on vacation! I will definitely look into using one of these for our next trip!
