In trying to be a more green, I recently tried out making my own dishwasher Detergent. It was actually pretty easy and worked pretty well. However, we have a brand new dishwasher, and we don’t have hard water. That may make a difference if this recipes doesn’t work for you. You may have to play with it a bit. For us, this simple homemade dishwasher recipe worked great.
1 cup Washing Soda
1 cup Borax
Blend thoroughly and store in a plastic container, use approximately 2 TBS per load.
We are going to try and get some essential oils and add a couple of drops for our next batch.
Do you make your own dishwasher detergent? If so, leave me the recipe in the comments for your homemade dishwasher detergent, so I can try it!
This is great! I don’t make my own dishwasher detergent but I thing it’s a total money saver!

“@blm03: Homemade Dishwasher Detergent: http://t.co/lFs5Bhbit0”. I have to try this!
what kind of essential oils?
I use Cascade, but when I run out I toss a little baking soda in and run the dishes. They don’t come out too bad.
Good to know! Those dishwasher tabs get expensive.
I have both under my sink so I am all over this.
No, but seriously thinking about it.
I’ve made this and I really like it. I got lazy and bought 32lbs of Charlies Soup. it’s lasted forever – almost 2 years.
Sounds great!
What a great idea!
Oh, wow! I knew you could make laundry detergent from those ingredients but I hadn’t thought about doing it for the dishwasher!

I’ve never made my own dishwasher detergent, but I have those ingredients so I should try! Thanks!
